The Russian Borzoi had no reliable recall and would frequently ignore its owner, sometimes looking at them before deliberately walking away in the opposite direction. After I provided the owner with some leadership exercises to practice at home, this was the outcome.

Puppy's are social animals and need to be allowed to interact. There seems to be some thought that puppy's should not be allowed to meet. I spend more of my time trying to help dogs that have not been well socialised and are now fear reactive to other dogs/people. These dogs lack social skills and very often give off the wrong signals to other dogs which can cause a conflict.

At dog intuition we allow puppy to interact in a controlled way, not a free for all.

Zak, was lunging and barking at dogs, never let off lead because of his reactivity. There is not quick fix for this behaviour but After a lots of hard work from his owners he finally relaxed enough to go on days out.

Food For thought.

We have domesticated for hundreds of years, why do we still have problems with them?
For me, its because we have not yet learnt how to live with them !


Over many years of dog training and home visits, I’ve often heard owners say, “My dog is great in the house, but outside it’s a nightmare.” Common issues include not listening, poor recall, and overreacting to other dogs or people.

Many of these behaviours—both indoors and outdoors—stem from unclear leadership, inconsistent boundaries, and mixed messages.
When a dog enters a home, it naturally tries to understand how things work, what is allowed, and who sets the rules.

If humans provide constant attention, unlimited freedom, and no structure, the dog may begin making its own decisions about how life should run.

Setting ground rules early is important. Not every dog will develop problematic behaviours, but prevention is far easier than correction.
