Paws At Home Limited is a family run business by Hilary, Don and Geoff, between us we have in excess of 60 years caring for cats. We pride ourselves on giving outstanding care to the cats we look after by offering a bespoke service that caters to you and your cats needs. After our cat had an unhappy stay in a cattery the next time we went away my father suggested he visited daily to feed and on ch

eck her which worked very well, friends realising we no longer used catteries started to ask us to look after their cats and from there things grew. We started Paws At Home Limited because we knew we were not the only people whose cats hated being in a cattery and who would benefit from a service where their cats could remain secure in their own environment getting the love and care they need whilst their owners are away and giving owners the peace of mind their cats are happy.

Happy National Black Cat Day!
National Black Cat Day was created by Cats Protection to celebrate the wonderful virtues of black cats. Black cats are often considered unlucky and therefore they can struggle to get adopted.

With the UK experiencing extreme heat over the next few days here are our top tips for keeping your cats cool:

• Hydration Is Important: make sure your cat has access to drinking water at all times. Consider putting extra water bowls in different places. Remember to put water bowls away from food bowls and to use glass, metal or ceramic and to avoid using plastic. Also use bowls with a large surface area so your cat does not have to put their head in the bowl.

• Provide Shade: make sure there are plenty of shaded areas for your cat to go both outside and inside like garden plants and cat hides.

• Keeping Cool: Ensure there are fans in areas that your cat frequents to keep the air circulating. Try freezing a bottle of water, wrapping it in a towel and place it in an area your cat frequents. Make sure the bottle will not leak and the cat can get away from it if they want. Keeping your curtains closed will help keep the room cooler.

• Look for signs that your cat is over heating: key signs include loss of energy and lethargy, excessive panting and dribbling. If you recognise these signs move your cat to a cool area and encourage your cat to have a drink. If symptoms persist or get worse (vomiting or collapse) seek veterinary advice immediately.
