Most people see the appointments, the horses and the dentistry.
What they don't always see is the time spent behind the scenes learning, discussing, planning and continually improving.
At the weekend I attended the BAEDT Congress & AGM as both a member and part of the council. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn from others, share ideas, discuss the future of the profession and catch up with colleagues who are equally passionate about equine welfare.
One thing I've always loved about this profession is that learning never really stops.
Whether it's listening to lectures, discussing cases, sharing experiences with colleagues, mentoring students or contributing through council work, every conversation ultimately comes back to one thing:
Improving the standard of equine dentistry and welfare for horses.
I'm incredibly proud to be part of a profession that is committed to maintaining standards, supporting education and continuing to develop for the benefit of the horses we care for.
A huge thank you to everyone involved in organising the event and to all those who shared their knowledge and experience throughout the weekend. I've come away with plenty of notes, ideas and things to think about.
Now it's time to put the notebook away, get back out on the road and do what I love most... seeing and treating horses.
What was the last thing you learned that changed the way you do something?
