Most people see the appointments, the horses and the dentistry.

What they don't always see is the time spent behind the scenes learning, discussing, planning and continually improving.

At the weekend I attended the BAEDT Congress & AGM as both a member and part of the council. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn from others, share ideas, discuss the future of the profession and catch up with colleagues who are equally passionate about equine welfare.

One thing I've always loved about this profession is that learning never really stops.

Whether it's listening to lectures, discussing cases, sharing experiences with colleagues, mentoring students or contributing through council work, every conversation ultimately comes back to one thing:

Improving the standard of equine dentistry and welfare for horses.

I'm incredibly proud to be part of a profession that is committed to maintaining standards, supporting education and continuing to develop for the benefit of the horses we care for.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in organising the event and to all those who shared their knowledge and experience throughout the weekend. I've come away with plenty of notes, ideas and things to think about.

Now it's time to put the notebook away, get back out on the road and do what I love most... seeing and treating horses.

What was the last thing you learned that changed the way you do something?

But they're eating fine.

It's one of the most common things we hear before a dental appointment.

The reality is that horses are incredibly good at adapting and hiding discomfort. As prey animals, showing weakness doesn't come naturally to them, so they often learn to cope with problems long before we notice anything is wrong.

Many horses with dental abnormalities continue eating, maintaining weight and carrying on as normal.

That's why routine dental examinations are so important.

We're not just looking for problems once they become obvious — we're looking to identify and address issues before they begin affecting your horse's comfort, health and performance.

Has your horse ever had a dental issue that surprised you because they weren't showing any obvious signs?

TEXT SYSTEM DOWN

Just another update…
Unfortunately the web-based text system that we use has been down since Thursday 8th May from around 8am. We have not been able to receive any messages since that time. We understand that some of the messages Angharad sent yesterday have come through but if you have replied, they haven’t been received.

This is an issue affecting the UK, parts of Europe and Australia. We have had regular updates from the system provider and they do seem to be working towards a solution so we are hoping we should be up and running again soon.

Thank you so much for your patience with this. It’s incredibly frustrating as it’s out of our control and Angharad has mentioned feeling particularly lonely yesterday and today!

If you do need to contact us today then please drop us a Facebook message.

RADIO SILENCE

Just a quick one, the computer based text system we use has been down today so we apologise if you have messaged us and we haven’t replied; we promise we are not ignoring you!
There seems to be an issue that they are currently resolving and hopefully we shall be up and running again in no time.
Thank you for your patience 🤍

A Friendly but Important Payment Reminder

We just wanted to post a little reminder regarding our payment terms.

As many of you know, we are a small business, and prompt payment helps keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes — from maintaining equipment and vehicles to managing diaries, records, insurance, and ongoing training.

🔹 Payment is due on the day of treatment.

The vast majority of our clients are absolutely brilliant with this, and we genuinely appreciate your support and understanding more than you know

Unfortunately, we’ve recently had a small number of repeated late payments and unpaid invoices, which has meant an increasing amount of time being spent chasing payments behind the scenes.

As a result, clients with outstanding or repeatedly overdue invoices may be asked to:

• Pay in full prior to future appointments being confirmed
• Pay deposits in advance for bookings
• Or may unfortunately be unable to rebook until balances are cleared

Late payment fees may also be applied where necessary, and if invoices continue to remain unpaid, further action may be taken to recover outstanding balances.

We completely understand that occasionally things get forgotten — and we will always try to approach situations fairly and reasonably — but repeated late payment has a significant impact on small businesses like ours.

The less time we spend chasing invoices, the more time we can spend focusing on what matters most: providing the best possible care for your horses.

Thank you again to all of our wonderful clients who continue to support us, pay promptly, and help keep everything running smoothly — we really do appreciate it 💙

Good luck to everyone sitting the BVDA practical exam today!

I know how much work goes into getting to this stage — and how the nerves/anxiety you’re probably feeling right now.

But honestly… just treat it like any other horse.

Take your time, don’t rush, and work through your routine.

Trust your skills and your training.

It’s been a pleasure to help so many of you get to this point.

We will be thinking of you all today.

Fingers crossed for you 🤞

You’ve put the work in — now just go and do your thing. 🙌

As a token of appreciation for all our hardworking colleagues in the stable, we would like to honor your work today. We know that equine dentistry would not be possible without equine dental practitioners who treat horses in the field every single day.

We are aware that not every horse -
just as in human medicine- requires an endoscopic, radiographic, or even a CT examination, let alone endodontic treatment or extraction. We thank the equine dental practitioners who, during their examinations with headlamp and mirror, are able to detect issues and decide whether further diagnostic evaluation by a specialist is necessary, and who then refer the case accordingly.

Good luck to everyone attending the BAEDT Pre-Exam Course this week!

The next couple of days are such an important and helpful step in your journey towards sitting the BEVA/BVDA practical exam — giving you the chance to refine your practical skills, build confidence, and identify any final areas to focus on before the big day.

Make the most of the opportunity:
Ask questions.
Watch closely.
Practise with purpose.

Sometimes it’s those small tweaks or conversations that make the biggest difference when it comes to exam day.

Gutted I couldn’t be there in person this time around but wishing you all a productive and positive couple of days — the hard work is paying off! 💪

🦷✨ Good luck to everyone sitting the BEVA/BVDA theory exam today! ✨🦷

A huge shout-out to all of you who have put in the hours, the revision, the mock papers, and the late-night cramming.

All that hard work will pay off — take a breath, trust your training, read the question carefully… and back yourself.

The next generation of Equine Dental Technicians is stepping forward, and that’s something to be incredibly proud of.

We’re rooting for every single one of you 🤍
Go smash it!
