Pet insurance can feel confusing. With different types of cover and lots of terminology, it’s not always easy to know which policy is right for you and your pet.

But having insurance in place can make a huge difference when the unexpected happens. It can help with the cost of illnesses, injuries and emergency treatment, giving you one less thing to worry about when your pet needs care.

If you’re unsure where to start or what each policy includes, our team is always happy to talk things through and help you feel more confident in your choices 🐾

Lovely Rex popped into Crookham Park Vets for a dental scale and polish with vet Maia.

He wasn’t too impressed about waiting in his kennel for pick up time, so our nurses made sure he had plenty of company. They took turns giving him cuddles, chats and entertainment until his parents arrived 🥰

Could your pet find their way home if they went missing? 🐾

A microchip gives your pet permanent identification and can make all the difference when it comes to reuniting you if they’re ever lost. It’s also important to keep the contact details linked to their microchip up to date.

We’ve put together a simple guide covering why microchipping matters, what pet owners need to know and how it can help keep your pet safe.

We’re incredibly proud to congratulate our brilliant vet, Kristina Tomco DVM MRCVS BSAVA PGCertSAS, on achieving her Postgraduate Certificate in Small Animal Surgery! 🎉

This qualification represents three years of hard work, dedication and commitment, and we couldn’t be happier to celebrate this milestone with her.

Kristina would like to share her thanks with the whole St Kitts team for their support, trust and patience throughout her studies, and to the clients who encouraged her and placed their faith in her as she developed her surgical skills.

She also extends a heartfelt thank you to her family, especially her husband, for stepping in with the children while she poured herself into her training.

Congratulations, Kristina. We’re so proud of you and excited to see all the ways you’ll continue to care for our patients 🩵

Meet Debbie the hognose snake! 🐍

Debbie recently visited our Basingstoke practice after developing impacted scent glands, which are similar to a**l glands in dogs.

After being assessed by our team, the decision was made to remove them to prevent further problems. Debbie was placed under anaesthetic and closely monitored by nurses Sophie and Monica, while vet Anna removed the enlarged glands.

The wound was then closed and Debbie recovered very well. She has since returned to her vivarium for a well-earned rest!

Unlike cats and dogs, Debbie’s sutures will stay in place for around four to six weeks, and the scar should gradually reduce with each skin shed.

The Petplan UK Veterinary Awards 2026 nominations are coming in!

Huge congratulations to Nic, one of our fabulous receptionists at Firgrove Vets, who has been nominated in the Practice Support Staff of the Year category 👏🎉

This comes as no surprise to our team, as Nic is an incredible colleague and continues to go above and beyond for our clients and their pets every day.

Nominations for this year’s awards are open until 4th September. If you believe any individuals in our team (or even our practices as a whole) have gone above and beyond in the care of your pet, it would mean the world to us to be put forward 🥰

Nominations can be submitted here: https://awards.petplan.co.uk/

Thank you so much in advance!

We’ve had an older female tortoiseshell cat brought into our Basingstoke practice after being found on Gershwin Road.

She is microchipped, however we have so far been unable to reach her owner using the contact details on the chip.

If you believe this may be your cat, please contact the team at St Kitts Vets Basingstoke on 01256 844944.

Please share this post to help us reunite her with her owner 🐾
