The school bags are back out, the house is suddenly quieter and some pets may be wondering where everybody has gone.

A change in routine can be unsettling, particularly for pets who have become used to having the family around over the summer. Keeping walks and mealtimes consistent, providing safe enrichment and making departures low-key can all help them adjust.

Pets can be very good at hiding discomfort, so the signs aren’t always as obvious as a limp or a cry.

Slowing down on walks, hesitating before jumping, avoiding the stairs, sleeping more or becoming less tolerant of touch can all suggest that something isn’t quite right.

September is Animal Pain Awareness Month and a useful reminder that changes shouldn’t simply be put down to “getting older”. If you’ve noticed something different, book an appointment with our team so we can take a closer look. 🐾

Routine care can soon add up, but the Medivet Healthcare Plan helps you spread the cost with simple monthly payments.

Plans at Medivet Basingstoke start from £15.50 a month for cats and £17.50 for dogs, with annual vaccinations included and at least 10% off medical care. For an additional £14 a month, you can also benefit from unlimited consultations.
