A massive thank you to Andy and the team for saving our Gary’s leg . We had lost all hope as gary had three previous operations on his elbow by a different vet and all three times it had failed we were told to have his leg removed . We wanted a second opinion and was recommended Andy and his team . Thank goodness we did ! 12 weeks after his operation this very talented man and his team, gary has never used his leg so well and is only getting stronger . All staff are very friendly on arrival and we felt straight away at ease. What shows the most is how much they care for the animals . From the bottom of our hearts thank you so much . 5 stars is not enough . I highly recommend this team .

Bobby is a true ‘Gentle Giant’ and a super-star patient 💫. He presented with a severe forelimb deformity and carpal instability. Deformity correction was combined with pancarpal arthrodesis (fusion of the carpal joint), using some of the biggest 3D-printed models and cutting guides we’ve had to use.

Bobby has done amazingly well and was back this week for his 8-week check.

Huge thanks to Surbiton and of course Bobby’s amazingly dedicated owner 🙏🙏🙏

Mini milestone in theatre today… we did our 10th BioMedtrix 3rd generation TATE elbow replacement. Possibly more than any other centre outside of the US? We are pleased to report the surgery went well and we are looking forward to another patient being free from their elbow pain. Great work Moores Ortho team!

Jasper has two new elbows! He did so well on his right elbow replacement last year that his owners (one of whom is a vet) were keen to get the left side replaced as soon as possible. BioMedtrix 3rd generation TATE elbow replacements were performed six months apart and Jasper returned this week for his 8-week check after the second surgery (video below). He continues to progress well and is now off all pain meds for the first time in years! Well done Jasper and well done his incredibly dedicated owners!!

If you've visited us recently you will know we have had builders working on our restored grain store. We are still waiting on some furniture but we now have a much larger and nicer reception area for our clients and additional consulting rooms and kennel space. We love it and we hope you do too!

This was a really nasty fracture! 😬
Highly comminuted, highly unstable (the tibia felt like a bag of marbles) and grade I open (and probably for some time). Major concerns were:

1. High energy injury – there will have been massive soft tissue disruption along with the visible bony injury, meaning vascularity was a big concern and delayed healing anticipated
2. Delayed healing means the stabilisation system was going to need to be sufficiently robust to avoid implant failure before union could occur
3. Infection risk, and possible need to remove implants at a later date

Surgical strategy after patient stabilisation:

1. Virtual fracture ‘reconstruction’ in to plan implant selection
2. Temporary IM pin and ESF to maintain limb alignment in surgery
3. Intraoperative radiography to assess limb alignment and guide implant placement
4. Minimally-invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) to minimise further disruption of the soft tissues/vascular supply at the fracture site, using precontoured cranial and medial plates
5. Double locking plate fixation to provide robust bridging of the fracture and to allow 4 screws to be placed in the very small proximal fragment

Milly has been a 💫 patient and has been using the limb fantastically well from soon after surgery. Predictably her fracture took longer than most fractures to heal but by 5 months, with the help of oblique views, we could be confident there was bridging bone along the length of the tibia and she was returned to full activity. Video below 👇. There have been no infections 🙂

Big thanks to for referring Millie and to her owners for allowing us to save her leg and for being so diligent with her aftercare 🙏🙏🙏
