🥳 10 YEARS OF ALUN! 🥳

This week, we're celebrating a whole decade of Alun at LLM! 💚

As our Clinical Director, Alun is a man of few words and a seemingly serious demeanour. He likes to give the impression of being a respectable, straight-laced professional, but those of us who know him well know better. There's a rather dark sense of humour lurking beneath that serious exterior!

Alun has always been a huge asset to LLM. He's calm under pressure, keeps a level head when things get hectic and brings a steady, reassuring presence to the team. He's someone you can rely on, and that means a lot.

Thank you, Alun, for ten years of hard work, dedication and being very much part of what makes LLM what it is. Here's to the next chapter!

💚 Celebrating our amazing Vet Techs! 💚

This week, we’re shining a spotlight on Charlotte, Emily and Molly, our fantastic Vet Techs here at LLM! 👏

These three play a vital role in supporting our vets and farmers, spending their days out on farm helping keep cattle healthy and thriving. 🐄

From body condition and mobility scoring to calf health, freeze branding and herd health monitoring, no two days are the same! They provide invaluable practical support to farmers and are an important part of keeping everything running smoothly.

A huge thank you to Charlotte, Emily and Molly for all their hard work and everything they bring to the team. We really appreciate you! 💚🙌

⛑️🚜On Tuesday, we were joined by Dave from DAC Education Ltd for the Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work course tailored to the farming and agricultural industry.

Our third fully booked first aid course was another great success, providing a valuable opportunity to build practical skills and confidence when responding to emergencies in agricultural environments.

Essential first aid skills were covered, including CPR and AED use, managing unresponsive casualties, choking, bleeding, shock, burns and minor injuries. We also explored farm-specific hazards, emergency response procedures and our responsibilities under health and safety regulations.

Yesterday, Hannah attended a suckler beef producers meeting ‘Maximising Returns whilst Minimising Stress’ hosted by the Walker Family, who own the Drambuie herd in Sanquhar, Dumfries and Galloway.

The Walker family have 800 suckler beef cattle and 2500 sheep farming over 3 sites and 4000 acres.

“ We were shown around one of the sites, Knockenjig Farm, by Mike Walker, who showcased their progressive farming methods and data-driven decisions. Describing himself as the ‘laptop farmer’ as data collection is key to their decisions on the farm, Mike discussed their use of genomic testing, synchronisation for AI and selection of breeding heifers and bulls using feed efficiency (amongst other selection criteria) to select the best performing cattle with use of the ‘GrowSafe system’.

Once off the farm (and out of the howling wind!) lunch was provided alongside a talk from Dr Reinaldo Cooke, fresh off a plane from Texas, describing his research into the Maternal Bovine Appeasing Substance (FerAppease) across multiple trials. This is a veterinary-only topical product that we are seeing used more across different farming businesses to reduce cortisol levels at predicted times of stress. It was fascinating to look at the data from Knockenjig farm, where the product has been used in various scenarios, and to also hear of data being collected in the UK to see if this translates to the findings in America.”
