🔥🐾 **BBQ Safety for Pets** 🐾🔥

Barbecue season is a great time to enjoy the sunshine, but it can also bring hidden dangers for our furry friends.

Keep your pets safe by remembering:
🌭 Avoid feeding BBQ food – cooked bones, fatty meats, onions, garlic, corn on the cob, grapes, raisins, chocolate, and alcohol can all be dangerous.
🍢 Keep skewers, kebab sticks, and food packaging well out of reach, as they can cause serious internal injuries if swallowed.
🔥 Never leave pets unattended around a hot barbecue, as they can easily suffer burns.
🗑️ Secure your bins – tempting leftovers can lead to upset stomachs, blockages, or poisoning.
💧 Make sure plenty of fresh water and a cool, shaded area are always available.

If you think your pet has eaten something they shouldn't or has been burned, contact your veterinary practice straight away.

A little extra care can help ensure everyone enjoys a safe and happy BBQ! 🐶🐱☀️

Pip's first vet visit today! 🐶💉

Pip the brave 9-week-old Jack Russell Terrier had her first vaccinations and was such a good girl❤️🐾

Pip had a little visit to our prep area to meet some of the team and she was in her element getting all the love and attention 🐶

Did you know … Labradors have "otter tails"! A Labrador Retriever's thick, powerful tail is often called an "otter tail" because it's broad at the base, tapers toward the end, and is covered in dense, water-resistant fur. It acts like a rudder when they're swimming, helping them steer through the water with impressive control. Labradors have a water-resistant double coat and slightly webbed feet, making them natural swimmers. These traits were developed when they worked alongside fishermen, retrieving nets and fish from cold waters. 🌊🐾

🐾💙 Meet Blue the French Bulldog 💙🐾
Blue’s owner did exactly the right thing when they noticed a lump and brought him in for a check-up. After a careful examination, Alex the vet performed an FNA (fine needle aspirate) to investigate what the lump could be.

The results showed that Blue’s lump was a mast cell tumour, so Blue’s family didn’t waste any time and arranged for surgical removal. Blue was a little superstar throughout, and the mass was successfully removed. 🐶✨

A mast cell tumour (MCT) is a type of tumour that develops from mast cells, which are part of the immune system and normally help the body respond to things like allergies and inflammation. In dogs, these cells can sometimes grow abnormally and form a lump in the skin or under the skin. Some mast cell tumours can behave aggressively, which is why getting any new or changing lumps checked promptly is so important.

Finding lumps early and getting them assessed can make a huge difference. Not every lump is something to worry about, but every lump deserves attention — especially when our furry friends can’t tell us something has changed.

We’re delighted to see Blue recovering well and sending him lots of cuddles and treats for being such a brave boy. Luckily, because his parents acted whilst the lump was small, we were able to remove all of the malignant cells meaning Blue is now cancer-free and the mass is very unlikely to return 💙🐾

A big thank you to Blue’s owner for acting quickly and helping give him the best chance. ❤️
