We just want to wish our beautiful Benji a super speedy recovery after the awful attack he suffered yesterday.
We’re so relieved to know he’s back home in his own bed, safe, cosy and surrounded by love. Thank god!💙

He’s got a bit of a road ahead of him, but we know what a brave little trooper he is. 💪🏼

🐾 DON’T JUDGE THE MUZZLE. JUDGE THE RESPONSIBILITY.

This is Grayson. ❤️

Grayson wears a muzzle because he can be slightly dog aggressive. And honestly? We think that makes his owner responsible, not reckless.

Because here’s the thing…

When people see a dog wearing a muzzle, they can be incredibly quick to judge.

“That dog must be dangerous.”
“That handler clearly can’t control him.”
“I’d stay away from that dog.”

But you couldn’t be further from the truth.

A muzzle doesn’t automatically tell you that a dog is dangerous, aggressive, or out of control.

One dog wearing a muzzle might be reactive towards dogs and people.

Another might only struggle around certain dogs.

Another might have absolutely no behavioural issues whatsoever and simply wear one because their owner wants an extra layer of safety or because it’s required in certain situations.

And yes… you might even see an XL Bully wearing one who has zero issues with dogs or people.

You simply don’t know the story behind the muzzle.

What you can know is that the owner has recognised a potential problem and is taking responsibility for it.

I’d much rather meet a muzzled dog being calmly handled by an owner who understands their dog, keeps them under control and respects other people’s space…

…than an unmuzzled dog flying towards us off lead while the owner shouts:

“DON’T WORRY, HE’S FRIENDLY!” 😂

Because being friendly isn’t the same as being under control.

So next time you see a dog wearing a muzzle, have a little reality check.

Don’t judge the dog.
Don’t judge the handler.
Don’t assume you know their story.

Give them space, respect their boundaries and carry on with your walk.

Because sometimes, the dog wearing the muzzle is actually the dog whose owner is doing everything right. 🐾💚

🐾 WE SPEND SO MUCH TIME TEACHING DOGS… BUT THEY TEACH US TOO. ❤️

When you work with dogs, it’s easy to focus on what they need from us.

They need structure.
They need boundaries.
They need guidance.
They need patience.
They need someone to advocate for them when they can’t advocate for themselves.

And that’s what we try to give every dog that comes through Adventure Tails.

But sometimes I sit back and think about what they give us in return.

Because the truth is… I need dogs too.

Not because they’re my job.

Not because they pay the bills.

And not because I run a dog training and walking business.

I need them because dogs have a way of making life feel better.

Every dog we meet becomes a little part of our journey.

The nervous ones that slowly learn to trust.
The reactive ones that finally learn they don’t have to fight the world.
The crazy ones that make us laugh. 😂
The dogs that just need someone to understand them.
And the owners who finally have that moment where everything starts to make sense.

We might be the ones holding the lead…

But they’re the ones who remind us why we’re holding it in the first place.

We teach dogs to look to their owners for direction.

To trust us.

To engage with us.

To know that we’ve got their back.

But I don’t think they’ll ever understand just how much we’ve got theirs because of them too.

Every new dog that joins our pack means something to us.

They’re not just another client.

They’re another little life that we’ve been trusted to help.

And honestly?

I think we’re incredibly lucky to have dogs in our lives. 🐾❤️

They need us.

But I’d be lying if I said we don’t need them just as much.

🐾 REAL WORLD GROUP TRAINING WALKS ARE BACK! 🐾

Want a dog who can walk nicely, focus on you and stay calm around the real world? 👀

Our next Real World Group Training Walk is happening:

📍 Wombwell Woods
📅 Sunday 20th September
⏰ 9:00am
⏱️ Around 90 minutes depending on how much we all get chatting! 😂

This isn’t just a walk… it’s training in the real world, around real distractions, with real-life situations thrown at us.

During the walk we’ll be working on:

🐕 Reactive behaviours
Helping dogs learn to stay calm around their triggers

🦮 Loose lead walking
Teaching your dog that pulling doesn’t get them where they want to go

👀 Engagement & focus
Building that connection between you and your dog

📣 Recall
Building a reliable response even when there are distractions

🧘 Calmness & neutrality
Learning that your dog doesn’t need to react to everything around them

🤝 Owner handling & confidence
Because training the human is just as important!

The aim is simple: help you build a dog who can enjoy the world with you, rather than constantly fighting against it. ❤️

🐶 A dog does NOT need to like every dog it meets.

Yep… I said it! 😂

One of the biggest misconceptions I see with socialisation is that our dogs need to meet, greet and interact with every dog they come across.

They don’t.

A well-socialised dog isn’t necessarily the dog that wants to play with every dog it sees. It’s the dog that can remain calm, well-mannered and engaged with its owner while other dogs, people and distractions are happening around them.

And this is something I really want owners to think about…

If every time your dog sees another dog, you allow them to rush over and say hello, what are you teaching them?

“Dogs = I get to go over there!”

So when you eventually say no, keep walking or ask them to stay with you, they can become frustrated because they’ve learned to expect that interaction.

Instead, teach your dog that calm behaviour gets them what they want.

Want to go say hello? Calm first.
Want to investigate something? Calm first.
Want to continue walking? Calm first.
Want freedom and rewards? Calm, engaged behaviour gets you there.

We want our dogs to learn that being calm, listening and engaging with their owner is what makes good things happen. 🐾

That might mean walking past another dog without pulling.

Looking at another dog and then choosing to look back at you.

Ignoring distractions because their owner is more valuable.

Waiting patiently instead of demanding access.

Being able to exist around other dogs without feeling like they HAVE to interact.

And sometimes, yes, appropriate interaction with another dog can absolutely be part of a dog’s life.

But it shouldn’t be the expectation every single time.

Socialisation isn’t teaching your dog to love every dog.

It’s teaching them how to cope with the world around them, make good choices, remain calm under distraction and look to you for guidance.

Because ultimately, I don’t want a dog that thinks:

“I need to get to that dog!”

I want a dog that thinks:

“There’s a dog… but my human is over here.” 👀

Calm gets access. Calm gets rewards. Calm gets freedom.
