⚠️ New legislation affecting owners of banned dog breeds is coming into force later this year.

From 1 November 2026, owners must not leave children under 12 unsupervised with an exempted banned breed dog in a private setting. The change aims to reduce the risk of serious injuries to children while promoting responsible dog ownership.

Our in-house RVN and Pet Behaviourist, Rachel Green, welcomes the focus on child safety and reminds owners that no child should ever be left alone with a dog, regardless of breed.
In our latest article, we explain:

🐾 What the new rules mean
🐾 Key dates owners need to know
🐾 Changes to insurance requirements
🐾 Warning signs that a dog may be feeling uncomfortable around children

Have you ever seen your rat’s eyes “vibrate” or bulge slightly in and out? This fascinating behaviour is called boggling! 🐀❤️

Boggling occurs when a rat rapidly moves the muscles behind its eyes, causing the eyes to appear as though they’re popping in and out of their sockets. While it can look unusual to owners seeing it for the first time, it’s often a sign that a rat is feeling content, relaxed, and comfortable.

Many rats boggle when being gently stroked, cuddled, or while resting in a favourite spot. You may also notice bruxing at the same time—a soft grinding of the teeth that is commonly associated with happiness and relaxation.

However, not all teeth grinding is positive. If your rat is grinding its teeth excessively, appears lethargic, is eating less, or shows other signs of illness, it’s important to seek veterinary advice, as bruxism can sometimes be a sign of pain or discomfort.

Have you ever caught your rat boggling? We’d love to see your photos and videos in the comments! ❤️

Today, on Pet Memorial Day, we pause to remember the beloved companions who left paw prints on our hearts forever. ❤️🐾

Whether they greeted us at the door, comforted us through difficult days, or filled our lives with unconditional love, their memories continue to bring warmth and joy.

The bond we share with our pets is built on unconditional love, loyalty, and countless cherished memories. While they may no longer be by our side, their spirit lives on in every walk, cuddle, and joyful moment they gave us.

To all the cherished pets we’ve had the privilege of knowing and caring for, and to the families who carry their memory forward, we honor the special bond that never fades.

Share a photo or memory of a pet you’ll always hold close to your heart. 🌈🐶🐱

Did you know that for complex investigations and surgeries we can refer your furry friend internally to our Rotherham surgery?

Dotty, our Head Nurse Lauren's cat, recently visited the Rotherham surgery for a scan after she was feeling poorly 🤒

She's now feeling much better, but she's definitely not a fan of her cone!

For more information about our surgeries, take a look here ⬇️
