We love a good feedback Friday here!

Thank you so much to Mo’s owner for her amazing feedback.
Nicki contacted me after struggling with her standardbred trotting horse, Mo. As most of my clients know, Duke, my own horse, is a standardbred trotter and he’s anything but an easy case. He’s taught me so much about trotting horses and led me to learning how best to help this amazing breed as many of them do struggle with various issues.
I do not consider myself an expert on this breed by any means, but I do know how to look past the trotters/pacer gait and see if that horse is actually lame from injury (like Duke often is 😂) or if they are just weak and need some support to get them back to their best selves!
Nicki and Mo both have some homework before their next session but they are well on their way to being able to enjoy the summer together ❤️

Thank you so much for your support Nicki!

Also ft Mo who looks less than impressed but was just grumpy she had to come off the grass early 😂

Sleepy snuggles with mama after his physio session ❤️. Bobby always loves his physio and is so chilled out after.

Don’t forget I’ll be here this Saturday supporting this amazing charity! I’ll be offering free musculoskeletal health checks for all doggies and giving advice on how to keep your dog fitter for longer!
I’ll also be doing a quick talk during the show interval about how important physio is for all dogs, not just the older or injured ones.
Fancy’s a day out? Come along and see everyone!

Hi all!
I hope everyone is enjoying the weather and keeping cool out there!

I am currently in Northumberland for half term with my son (and husband!). So posts will be minimal and replies slower.

Enjoy the sun, who knows how long it will be here for this time! ☀️

Last clients today before I go away on Monday and what better way to end the week than with the lovely Kenny ❤️

I still have some admin bits to do today and tomorrow and then I’m away for the week!

Reply’s will be slower, but I will have my phone on me in case anyone needs anything.

Enjoy the beautiful weather we are set to have this week! ❤️

It’s set to be a hot one next week!
With the kids being off school and the bank holiday weekend most people will be wanting to get out and about to enjoy the sun!
But please keep in mind that some of your pets may not cope well with the sudden jump in temperatures! While we can put shorts on and finally ditch the coats! It’s not as easy for our fury friends!
So here’s so tips to help them cope with the incoming heat wave (that you’ve probably heard 1000 times before!)
💦 Always provide fresh, cool water, especially after walks or rides.
💦Consider adding an electrolyte to a seperate water bowl to replace all the salt they are loosing through sweating!
🌅 walk your dog or ride your horse in the cooler morning or evenings where possible!
☀️my general rule of thumb is if it’s over 25°c, I’m not riding/working my horse! But consider their coat and fitness level as this impacts their tolerance for heat!
☀️Test the pavement before you walk your dog! But also consider where you are walking them, is it all pavement, will you be walking in the shaded woods, or a big open field with little shade. This matters! Your dog won’t die from missing a walk, but dogs have died from being walked when it’s too warm!
💦 Provide water! Not just for drinking, but to soak your horse or dog with! Paddling pools are great fun for (most!) dogs and my horse loves having water poured on him on a hot day, even though he hates baths at the best of times!
☀️Don’t forget to put suncream on those pink noses and ears! Horses and dogs can get sunburnt too!
😁Most importantly, have fun!
The weather has been all over the place recently, so have fun in the sun and stay safe!

Love this infographic from the pdsa.
One question I get a lot is ‘how often do you get bitten?’ Truthfully, I’ve been bitten twice in the 3 years I’ve been practicing. And once was by a dog that I wasn’t treating, but observing that had known behavioural issues (I wasn’t quick enough when they lunged).
As a vet physio, I’m trained to recognise the subtle behaviours that dogs show before they escalate to biting. The lip licking, the side eyes, the guarding behaviour, they’re all smaller warning signs before a dog will bite. Some dogs do go through the ladder, some dogs have been ignored and reprimanded for the smaller behaviours, that the only way they know how to get a response is the big behaviours.
So, yes, I allow dogs to growl, I let them walk away, I want to see the less extreme behavioural signs of pain and discomfort so that they don’t feel like they have to bite just to be heard.
If you’re frequently seeing these behavioural signs in your dog *particularly the submissive belly up!* speak to your vet, your trainer, or your vet physio.
It could be behavioural, but it could be pain.
If you’re worried, message me, I’m always happy to chat with owners and help out where I can ❤️
