November is diabetes awareness month in the veterinary world and human medicine also. Early detection of clinical signs and testing is essential to stabilising diabetes.

For the whole of November, we are offering one free urine testing for VIP cats and dogs over the age of 8. This will check the concentration of the urine, the pH and detect presence of protein, ketones, blood and most importantly, glucose. (Additional testing for bacteria and crystals and diabetic blood tests are not included)

Diabetes is diagnosed from a combination of clinical signs, blood results and urine testing and we use all of these to monitor diabetic control long term.

If you need to collect non-absorbable litter or a urine collection pot, then please pop into the clinic and we can supply you with some (free of charge for November also).

We will be spreading awareness of canine and feline diabetes throughout November, if you have any questions then please speak to a member of the team☺️🦮🐈🩺

🐾 Meet little Cooper, building confidence one treat at a time! 🥹💙

Looks like he’s just enjoying a little snack… totally normal, right?

Little Cooper used to be so scared of the vets that he wouldn’t dare come this close for a treat. 🥺 With regular socialisation visits, plenty of tasty treats and a little confidence building, he’s slowly learning that we’re not such a scary place after all! 🐶✨

Now look at him go! 🥰 He’s discovering what he’s been missing out on, and we couldn’t be prouder of his progress. 💙

🐾 We’re proud to announce that we’ve passed our Practice Standards assessment! 🎉

But what exactly is Practice Standards, and why are they so important?

The RCVS Practice Standards Scheme is a voluntary accreditation scheme that recognises veterinary practices that meet specific standards of care, safety and professionalism. It assesses areas such as clinical care, staff training, hygiene, equipment, health and safety, and the overall experience we provide for our patients and their owners.

Achieving this recognition is about so much more than passing an assessment. It reflects the dedication, teamwork and hard work that goes on behind the scenes every single day to ensure we provide the highest possible standards of care for your beloved pets. 🐶🐱🐰

We are incredibly proud of our whole team for the commitment, effort and passion that has gone into achieving this milestone. 💚

A big well done to Woody, who came to see us after a bee sting left him feeling a little sorry for himself! 🐝💛

Bee stings can be painful and may cause swelling, especially around the face and paws. If your pet is stung, try to prevent them from scratching the area and keep a close eye on them. Call us straight away if you notice severe swelling, breathing difficulties, vomiting, or collapse.

Thankfully, Woody was a superstar patient and is now back to enjoying life as a happy little pug! 🐶✨

🎆🐾 Firework season is coming!

While fireworks can be exciting for us, the loud bangs and flashes can be frightening for our four-legged friends. ❤️

Here are a few ways you can help your pet feel safer:

🏠 Create a safe space a quiet, cosy area where they can retreat and feel secure.
🎵 Mask the noise close windows and curtains and play calming music or the TV.
🐕 Keep pets indoors make sure doors, windows and cat flaps are secure.
🦴 Keep them distracted offer a favourite toy, treat or enrichment activity.
😌 Stay calm your pet can pick up on your emotions, so keep things relaxed and reassuring.
💊 Please contact us if your pet is particularly anxious, we can discuss ways to help before fireworks begin.

🐾📞 Happy Veterinary Receptionist Appreciation Day! 📞🐾

Our veterinary receptionists are often the first friendly face and voice our clients meet. 💕 They keep the practice running smoothly by managing appointments, answering questions, supporting worried owners, organising patient care and helping the whole veterinary team stay on track.

Behind every busy practice is a receptionist working hard to keep everything organised often while juggling a hundred things at once! 🐶🐱🐰

Today, we celebrate and thank our amazing veterinary reception team for their kindness, patience, organisation and dedication. You are such an important part of the veterinary team! 🩷🐾
Thank you for everything you do! 🌟

**World Rabies Day** reminds us of the vital role veterinary professionals play in preventing one of the world's deadliest zoonotic diseases.

Through vaccination, surveillance, education, and responsible pet ownership, veterinary teams are at the forefront of protecting both animal and human health. Rabies is almost always fatal once clinical signs appear, but it is also almost entirely preventable through effective vaccination programmes.

Although **rabies is not present in the UK**, it remains a significant global public health issue, causing tens of thousands of deaths each year, predominantly in countries where access to vaccination is limited. This makes awareness, continued vigilance, and support for global rabies control efforts just as important.

This World Rabies Day, let's recognise the essential contribution of veterinary medicine in working towards a future where no one dies from rabies.

How brave is Barney?
Barney, the cocker spaniel, came in for an ear recheck after being treated for an ear infection where we found two grass seeds! - one in each ear. He was so brave that both seeds were removed without sedation! 🐾
