Happy Friday everyone!

This handsome bunny is Jeffe! While he looks like he is posing for a mugshot after committing a crime he is actually showing you how slender and fit he is now!

Jeffe has been on a strict weight loss programme as he was enjoying one too many snacks! He is down to his target weight and looks absolutely amazing!

Well done to Jeffe’s family who have done a fantastic job with him!

What a cutie! 😍🐰

🐰🐰 Yesterday was International Rabbit Day 🐰🐰

Sorry we missed it bunnies!! 🙈

So today we are celebrating all things bunny instead. 🥰

We see quite a few lovely rabbits in clinic. They aren’t as popular as dogs and cats but make just as good pets. Rabbits are intelligent, interactive and affectionate animals who make great pets for busy people. As long as your rabbit has a bunny friend they are quite happy to spend the day eating and sleeping! 😄

Here are a few quick bunny facts:

🐰 Rabbits are herbivores, they eat green vegetables, hay, grass and fibre based rabbit pellets.

🐰 Their teeth grow continuously so wear down as they eat. A poor diet can cause their teeth to grown unevenly causing pain.

🐰 Rabbits need to be neutered too! We all know the saying ‘breed like rabbits’, not only does neutering stop unwanted babies, it prevents uterine and testicular cancer.

🐰 Yearly vaccination protects them against Viral Haemhorragic Disease and Myxomatosis.

🐰 Rabbits are incredibly smart and can be trained to do tricks and to respond to commands.

🐰 They are clean animals and toilet in one place. They will use a litter tray which makes them excellent house pets.

🐰 Rabbits need a lot of space to run and play. Keeping them locked in a hutch is not enough.

🐰 They are social animals that need to live with at least one bunny friend.

We would love to see your bunnies! Add your photos in the comments below. 🥰

Who says coming to work isn’t fun?!

Fig, Rayne and Brian say that work is the BEST FUN!! 😂

Why is veterinary nursing the best job in the world? Not only are the patients cute and cuddly, but you can bring your dog to work each day with you. 🥰

Fig, Rayne and Brian belong to our nurses, Faith, Tina and Kristyn. I’m sure you can guess which dog belongs to each nurse based on the breed. 😄

Just look at that wee face!! 😍😍

This handsome chap is Mr Pickles. He is 14 years young and an absolute dude! We love Mr Pickles. ❤️❤️

Mr Pickles came in to see us this week with a pesky wart that was causing some irritation. We are treating it with a course of cryotherapy in the hope it will shrivel up and drop off and stop causing Mr Pickles bother.

Cryotherapy is a non-invasive way of treating small warts and skin tags. It isn’t painful and only requires the patient to sit still for a short time. It is especially useful for our older patients who we would rather not anaesthetise just to remove a small wart.

Mr Pickles was the model patient, as always, and sat like the goodest boy. 🥰

On Friday we had a very special emergency. This prickly little girl needed our help.

She was found with her litter mates with no sign of mum anywhere. One of her siblings was already dead and sadly two others were injured and had to be humanely euthanised. We think mum may have been killed or scared away by the attacker.

Our nurses set to work warming her up, checking her over for injuries and rehydrating her to give her the best chance of survival. After a feed of some nice warm puppy milk she was more active and looking much happier.

We have transferred her to our amazing wildlife rehabbed, Karen, and we wish her all the best. 🦔

Please keep your fingers and toes crossed for this little one. Hedgehogs are wonderful little creatures and are important local residents. ❤️🦔

Linda and Owen leave for Tanzania today.

They would like to thank all of you kind people who have made a donation towards One Health Usamabara. It means a lot that so many of our clients and local community support this charity and the work that Linda and Owen do.
