Working vs Show Cocker Spaniel
A lot of people get cocker spaniels and don’t know the difference between the show line and working line. Here’s what I’ve learnt from having both:
Meet George my 13yo working cocker. I say working lightly, cause this boy hasn’t worked a day in his life. George is a full working cocker spaniel meaning he’s full of energy 24/7. Facts about working cocker spaniels:
🐶 They were originally bred for hunting & retrieving
🐶 They typically have a smaller & leaner build, with a flat top of the head & shorter coat
🐶 They have the same energy as someone on 8 redbulls a day
🐶 They are extremely driven & smart, they don’t have an off switch (13 years later and I still haven’t found George’s)
Meet Lenny my 5yo show/working cocker. Whilst Lenny is mixed with the 2 lines, he looks like your typical show cocker, with his longer ears, rounded head and fluffier coat. However he has the traits of a working cocker spaniel, absolutely mental. Facts about show cocker spaniels:
🐶 They were originally bred for showing
🐶 They typically have a more sturdy & elegant build, with a rounded top head, long ears and much longer coat
🐶 They are usually a lot more calm, however still have moderate - high energy
🐶 They are intelligent but tend to be less intense & are easy going compared to the working line
Cocker spaniels are the most loving & needy breed🫶
