⚠️ Adder Bite Awareness for Dog Owners ⚠️
As the weather warms up, we're seeing an increase in adder activity across the UK. Adders are the UK's only venomous snake, and although bites are relatively uncommon, they can be very serious and require urgent veterinary attention.
Over the past week alone, we have treated 4 cases of adder bites in dogs. Thankfully, we are pleased to say that all 4 patients are doing well and recovering nicely. 🐾
We are fortunate to stock adder antivenom here at Parc Vetcare, allowing us to begin treatment quickly when needed.
Signs of an adder bite may include:
• Sudden yelp or signs of pain while out walking
• Rapid swelling, usually around the face, muzzle, or limbs
• Lethargy or weakness
• Drooling
• Vomiting
• Difficulty breathing in severe cases
What should you do if you suspect an adder bite?
✅ Keep your dog as calm and still as possible
✅ Carry them if you can to reduce movement
✅ Contact your veterinary practice immediately
Adders are most commonly found in heathland, moorland, coastal areas, and sunny woodland edges, particularly between spring and autumn.
If you suspect your dog has been bitten by an adder, prompt veterinary treatment can make a significant difference to their recovery.
Stay safe and enjoy your walks! 🐶🐍
