We’re incredibly proud to share that Sam Potter, Farm Vet and HNVG Director, has been named Dairy Vet of the Year at the Cream Awards.

Sam was recognised for his progressive, data-driven approach to preventative medicine and his commitment to helping farmers move away from reactive “firefighting” towards proactive herd health planning.

And the results speak for themselves.

At one farm, Sam helped reduce mastitis rates from 80 to just 8 cases per 100 cows. At another, his work contributed to a 15% increase in calf daily liveweight gain.

But it’s not just the numbers that make Sam stand out. He works closely with the whole farm team, turning complex data into practical actions that can make a real difference day to day. He also takes the time to involve and support the next generation of vets, sharing his ultrasound screen during visits so junior colleagues can learn alongside him.

Sam’s commitment goes beyond herd health, too. As a mental health champion within HNVG, he recognises that successful farming depends on supporting farmers as well as their animals.

A huge congratulations to Sam on this thoroughly deserved recognition. We’re very lucky to have him as part of the HNVG team.

And this was only HALF of them!

These gorgeous GSPs definitely made our afternoon - although we’re not sure who enjoyed the cuddles more, us or them!

Male kitten found on Whykam Lane in Banbury, approximately 6-8 weeks old.

He’s a lovely tabby, very friendly and has no microchip.

We get it. You get a new pet, move house, change your phone number, and before you know it, life has got busy.

But keeping your pet’s microchip details up to date is one simple way to help give them the best chance of being reunited with you if they ever go missing.

In England, it is a legal requirement for dogs over 8 weeks old and cats over 20 weeks old to be microchipped and registered on a compliant database. It’s also important to keep the registered contact details up to date if you move house, change your phone number or your circumstances change.

A microchip is only useful if the information linked to it is correct.
