Rex loves his baths, and snacking on lettuce and dandelions 🌱

Fun fact 🐢: Hermann’s tortoises can recognise their owners! They can learn to associate familiar people with food and positive experiences, and some will even come over to investigate when their favourite human enters the room.

They can live for 50+ years, so owning one can be a very long-term friendship! 🐢💚

We have been starting to see a few cases of Haemonchus/Barbers pole worm in sheep and lambs, due to the warm weather we’ve been experiencing.

Signs of to look out for:

-ill thrift and poor growth rates
-anaemia, lethargy and weakness or collapsed animals (the worm feeds on blood)
-Large infections can cause death of the animal .

***Haemonchus does not cause scour like other gut worms ***

If you are concerned about ill thrift or losses in your lambs please give us a call and bring in a dung sample for worm egg counts

🦎 Even bearded dragons can pick up unwanted hitchhikers!

Spike, the bearded dragon recently visited us for treatment after developing a mite infestation. These tiny parasites can cause irritation, discomfort and, if left untreated, may lead to more serious health problems.

🔍 Signs to look out for include:
• Tiny black or dark moving dots on the skin, especially around the eyes, ears and skin folds
• Frequent soaking or rubbing against objects
• Restlessness or irritation
• Reduced appetite
• Poor sheds or skin irritation
• In severe cases, weight loss or lethargy

Regular veterinary health checks are an important part of keeping your reptile healthy.

🏡 Good husbandry is key to prevention:
✔️ Keep enclosures clean and disinfected
✔️ Quarantine any new reptiles before introducing them to others
✔️ Regularly clean and replace substrate and furnishings as needed
✔️ Maintain appropriate temperatures, humidity and UVB lighting
✔️ Check your reptile regularly for any changes in appearance or behaviour
