💔 WE NEED YOUR HELP TO KEEP OUR RESCUE GOING 💔🐾
Six weeks ago, I shared a post explaining that Dogs Walk This Way Rescue desperately needed a break. Our entire team was mentally, physically and emotionally exhausted, and we had made the difficult decision to pause taking in any more dogs until the New Year.
What has been absolutely gut-wrenching during these past six weeks is knowing just how many dogs are still out there suffering. Dogs sitting in horrific conditions, dogs facing euthanasia, dogs abandoned and unwanted, and dogs whose lives could potentially have been saved if we had been in a position to help.
Despite announcing our break, the calls, emails and messages pleading for help have continued to come in every single day. 💔
As a team, these six weeks have been much needed. Although we haven’t completely switched off, as we still have several dogs in foster requiring our ongoing support, the reduced workload has allowed us to catch our breath, refocus and have some much-needed time for ourselves and our families.
But rescuing dogs isn’t something you can simply switch off from.
After receiving FIVE calls for help today alone, we held a team meeting and collectively decided that we simply cannot sit back until January knowing there are dogs desperately needing us.
We have therefore agreed to help a small number of dogs between now and the New Year, prioritising those in the most desperate situations.
However, things MUST change.
We are introducing new policies and procedures to ensure we can continue helping dogs without sacrificing the wellbeing of our volunteers. Every single person involved in this rescue gives their time for free. We all have jobs, families, personal commitments and lives outside of rescue, and we need to find a sustainable balance.
We will be announcing more about how we intend to operate going forward very soon.
But right now, we have a much bigger problem. WE ARE RUNNING OUT OF MONEY. 😢
Although we paused taking in dogs, our financial commitments haven’t stopped.
We still have dogs in both short-term and long-term foster care who need feeding, veterinary treatment and ongoing support. We still have the everyday running costs of the rescue, and unfortunately, the vet bills just keep coming.
💔 Our veterinary bills for September alone exceeded £3,000.
And as things currently stand, we have just:
£2,714.35 remaining across our bank and PayPal accounts.
That is an incredibly worrying position for a rescue like ours to be in, especially knowing we have another veterinary bill due at the end of October.
Take our lovely pocket bully Victor, for example. We rescued him from appalling conditions and a life of misery. In just a short space of time, his veterinary care has already cost us several thousand pounds. But how could we turn our backs on him? He deserved a chance at a better life, just like every other dog. ❤️
We currently have FIVE dogs waiting to be assessed, TWO dogs needing experienced trainer foster placements, and countless others whose situations are absolutely heartbreaking.
But the reality is, without funds, we simply CANNOT continue taking dogs in.
We have always tried to maintain a financial buffer of approximately £10,000. Not because we want money sitting in the bank, but because emergencies happen. Dogs need unexpected surgery, extensive treatment and specialist care, and those bills can run into thousands overnight.
With just £2,714.35 remaining and our existing financial commitments, we are now in a position where we genuinely have to consider whether we can continue operating.
And after everything this rescue and our volunteers have achieved over the years, the thought of closing our doors is absolutely devastating.
Over 3,000 dogs have been given a second chance through Dogs Walk This Way Rescue. Thousands of lives changed because people believed in what we do and supported us along the way.
We don’t want that to end. 💔
🙏 THIS IS WHERE WE NEED OUR AMAZING SUPPORTERS MORE THAN EVER.
We have nearly 30,000 followers across our social media accounts.
If every single follower donated just £1, we could raise almost £30,000!
Imagine what that could do.
Imagine how many dogs we could rescue, how many veterinary bills we could cover, and how many dogs currently living in misery could finally be given the chance of a happy life.
We know times are financially difficult for everyone, and we would never expect anyone to give more than they can afford. But even £1 genuinely makes a difference when thousands of people come together.
If you cannot donate, PLEASE share this post. Ask your friends and family to donate a pound or two. Help us reach people who may not have heard of our rescue before.
We have the experience. We have the dedication. We have an incredible team of volunteers willing to help. What we desperately need now is the financial support to make it possible.
We don’t want to close our doors. We don’t want to turn away dogs who have nobody else. And we certainly don’t want to look back knowing there were lives we could have saved if only we had the funds.
But we cannot do this alone.
