Absolutely loving being back working on an event yard again! Really starting to ignite a flame inside me again to get back doing it myself!

This week has been tough though, as I’m doing the yard up til lunch and done a pub shift every night too! Plus I did a driving job for polo in the middle - where usually I try and get some sleep… but, it’s something that I’ve been wanting to do since I got my HGV!!! So that was super exciting!!! and also done some freelance work for a friend who’s gone away for the weekend so had her horses to do too.

Anyone who really knows me will know that I’ll complain all the time that I’m tired and working too much, but they also know that I am a workaholic and keeping busy is the way I keep myself most healthy!

The last couple of months have been a bit rocky… but as always, despite a few peoples efforts to try and put me down, here I am coming back out on top again and proving them all wrong! 😬

Life is chaotic, but that’s how I like it! Otherwise I get bored 😂 let’s see what the rest of the summer has in stall for me… I am on the look out for a horse again, ideally something to share, but if I can’t find anything I will look to buy something! So, watch this space! And just know that even if you hear me complain at all, I really am in my happy place again 🫶🏼🫶🏼🥰

So grateful to receive things like this from someone so highly thought of in the area! I was very lucky to loan one of my first horses from Vicky and to know that she would still recommend me and for her to say I rode her beautifully is such a humbling compliment ☺️

A busy day today getting Bailey ready for hunting, taking her to the meet then coming home to get Thomas ready for 2nd horse, driving him over and swapping the horses then bringing Bailey home and making sure she’s safe and sound after a morning hunting! Days like today make me happy. I’ve worked hard this last year to pay for all my lorry licences myself so I can provide this type of service and today was the first day I was able to!

Even more exciting is the fact that both of these horses are now going to be mine for the summer to take out eventing! One of them is already booked in to riding club in 2 weeks! So, watch this space for updates on me getting back out competing again and enjoying the horses over the summer! 🥰

Discussion… mucking out! How do we all do ours? Of course when mucking out for someone else, I always ask how they like their beds done and it amazes me me how variable people are in terms of what stays in, what goes out etc etc!

My own horses however, I’ve always kept with a deep litter base as IMO it makes mucking out a million times easier! I don’t mean just chucking straw on top every day, I mean properly making a small base layer and then putting a small bit of clean on top daily.

These pictures are a perfect example. Said horse is one I’ve been doing most days for a few weeks now, he’s on box rest and I put the bank of clean straw along the back Monday morning… 1 single flap of big bale. Every morning I whip off the poos and take a bit of wee out, level it out sweep it back etc but tonight going in to do a late skip out I thought I’d take pics.

First pic is this evening before I went in, 2nd pic was 4 mins later! As there’s a secure base, I don’t need to put heaps of straw on top so the poos don’t get mashed in! The bed isn’t huge, there’s little wastage and the time is minimal. But, it’s perfectly apt for a horse to lie down and he isn’t led on a wet bed!

I’m intrigued to know other people’s thoughts on this… I have been sacked from yards before because mucking out wasn’t to their standards! But what are other people’s ideas of standards? Does it vary between pleasure owner and a business owner? Given the cost of straw right now and also knowing time is any professional in the industries nemesis… I’m just interested to know what other people do!

P.s this is supposed to be a fun post, absolutely not aimed at anyone personally!! It’s just a question I’ve always wondered ☺️☺️

Have any of my clients seen my baton? It’s embroidered with my name on it so pretty difficult to miss! But I can’t for the life of me remember where I’ve left it…it’s 17yrs old so has a lot of sentimental value 🥹🥹
