🐾Microchip Awareness Month🐾
❤️Lennie’s story❤️
14 month old Lennie went missing in the middle of March from his home in Kilmarnock. He was neutered and microchipped. However, there were absolutely no sightings! It was as if he had disappeared in a puff of smoke 💨
Around two weeks ago, we were contacted by some kind residents in Back Peebles St., Ayr, who were feeding a young ginger cat. We scanned the cat but the cat was very wary and no microchip was initially detected. A few days later, we managed to secure a note to his existing collar to try to establish if he was owned locally or not; there was no response. On 7th June, one of the feeders managed to secure the cat late at night and he was collected and spent the night calming down in our volunteer’s conservatory! Not our normal practice! Today, he was taken to Vets for Pets Ayr where he was much calmer and was rescanned. Microchipped! Unfortunately the chip wasn’t registered.
However, also on the 7th June, the owner had seen photos posted by Petcayr By T & G Hutchison Pet Supplies who, it turned out, the cat was also visiting; they had been to see the cat and was sure he was their missing Lennie, but he had run off. Some details complicated the story a bit but we soon realised the cat we were monitoring and the cat at PetcAyr was the same cat. Extensive contact with Lennie’s family reassured us it was most probably Lennie but we needed to be 100% sure. Now supplied with Lennie’s microchip number, which we were able to share with V4P, we could 100% confirm it was him even though it wasn’t registered! V4P arranged for him to be reunited and advised his owner on registering his microchip. Happy ending for Lennie, who his owners assure us, is grounded for life! Thank you to everyone involved, and especially to Lennie’s feeders, who noticed this wee visitor and felt that he was in need of our help. It was a busy day yesterday, for our very small team, but it all came together in the end!
The moral of the story is get your wee feline friend microchipped and make sure that it is registered, too.
