Hampden Veterinary Hospital

Hampden Veterinary Hospital We are very proud to have served animal owners for over 80 years. 24/7 Emergency Hospital. iiE Bronze

There has been a veterinary practice at our present Hospital site in Aylesbury for over 100 years, which at that time was on the edge of the town and where the vet worked out of his Georgian house with stables in what was his back garden. This building continued to be used as part of our Small Animal Hospital till 2009. We fully renovated it in 2011 to use as our Farm Practice Office.

Tilly, a young and usually bright eyed cocker spaniel, arrived at the small animal hospital in early May after suddenly becoming ataxic and tremoring. Ataxia means a loss of normal coordination or balance. Pets may wobble, stumble, sway, or seem disorientated, almost as if they can’t quite control where their feet are going. It’s a symptom rather than a diagnosis, and it can be very frightening to see.

Tilly’s owner recognised immediately that something wasn’t right and brought her straight to the hospital. On arrival, she was clearly uncomfortable and unsteady, so we ran blood tests to investigate the cause and administered medication to ease her symptoms. Thankfully, she responded quickly and was well enough to go home the same day.

We’ve just had a follow up chat with her owner, and the news is wonderful! Tilly hasn’t had a single repeat episode and has continued to thrive at home, full of her usual cocker spaniel charm.

A scary moment, a fast response, and a brilliant recovery.

Many thanks to her owner for allowing us to share her story!

Fearne the Great Swiss Mountain Dog brightened everyone’s day at the small animal hospital yesterday. This gentle giant came in for her routine epilepsy blood test, which is an important check to make sure her medication levels are just right and keeping her seizures well controlled.

Fearne is also one of our lovely patients on our Pet Care Plan, which means her regular health checks and routine monitoring are all kept up to date, helping us stay on top of her condition and keep her feeling her best.

While the team quietly took her sample, Fearne enjoyed belly tickles, head pats, and an outrageous amount of fuss. She was so relaxed she didn’t even notice her bloods being taken!

Here’s to Fearne - a gentle giant, a model patient, and an all round good girl.
