If you have a new puppy and you want to do everything you can to protect them from becoming reactive, then this is my best piece of advice.

That long list that we were given years ago, where we had to expose our puppies to a looooong list of new environments, was overwhelming for us, let alone a young, over stimulated and impressionable puppy.

The best way you can help your puppy when it comes to socialising is to limit where you take them - be really choosy. And most importantly prioritise your puppies emotional wellbeing. If they are already overwhelmed, taking them somewhere new, where anything could happen, is a recipe for disaster - and the start of a reactive dog journey that nobody wants to be on.

If your dog gets easily distracted and you want your dog to see you as more fun than the environment, this is a fab game to play with them.
Play lots at home and you will see how well it works when you are out and about.

Constantly giving your dog commands ‘Stop that’
‘NO’
‘Get down’
‘Stop barking’
‘LEAVE’
‘Sit’

…it all gets a little exhausting. You end up with a dog that only behaves if they have been told what to do.

A lot of these commands can also leave a dog feeling a little punished.

How about if you could inspire your dog to make great choices, even when they are on their own?

When you focus on what you want them doing, rather than what you don’t want them doing, you start transforming the direction of your training to a calmer life.

We all love to feel inspired, so let’s do the same for our dogs.

Bone broth is so good for dogs. Have you had a go at making it for your furry friends?

You can make it with lots of vegetables as well for added flavour and nutrients, remembering to miss out any onion as this is toxic for them.

If walks fill your dog’s bucket - you can give yourself permission to stop walks for a while.

Society tells us, ‘we must walk our dogs every day’, yet for some dogs, this is detrimental to their well-being.

Maybe they get so over excited, that for the rest of the day they are bouncing off the walls. Or maybe your dog is reactive and you know the second they see another dog, they are going to get themselves into such a state that it takes them a good while to calm down.

This creates a constant loop so by time they have hopefully calmed down it is time for their next walk and it starts all over again. They end up spending a good portion of their life in a highly emotive state, which impacts every part of their life.

If your dog struggles on walks and you dream of them having a calmer life, the best way is to put walks on hold while you build up their training at home.

“I have never seen my dog do that before”

If you have heard yourself say this before, then this video is for you.

Unexpected behaviour such as lunging, snapping or even biting is something that can be shocking to witness.

The reason behind these out of character behaviours can be a lot more straight forward than you think.

Is your dog naturally pessimistic about life or optimistic?

We have all spent time around dogs that appear to be full of confidence - or are they?

The dog that goes charging up to other dogs - confident or lacking confidence?
