🐾 3 common things I've been noticing with dogs lately...

If you're dealing with any of these, you're definitely not alone.

1️⃣ Dogs struggling to settle at home
Many owners are telling me their dogs seem restless, constantly looking for something to do, or finding mischief when left alone.

2️⃣ Pulling on the lead after a period of improvement
A lot of dogs seem to be testing boundaries again, especially with all the exciting sights, smells and distractions that come with warmer weather.

3️⃣ Owners wanting more enrichment for their dogs
More people are asking how they can keep their dogs mentally stimulated between walks and help prevent boredom.

The good news?

These are all really common challenges, and they don't mean you're doing anything wrong. Every dog goes through different phases, and sometimes a few small adjustments can make a big difference.

Which one sounds most like your dog right now?

This is for you if you need reliable, caring support for your dog, cat or horse 🐾

At Rachel’s Rambles, I offer:
🐶 Solo dog walks
🐕 Group walks
🐱 Drop-in visits for cats
🐾 Puppy visits
🦴 Support for elderly dogs
🐴 Equine services

Every pet is different, which is why I focus on providing care that suits their needs and personality — whether that’s a calm solo walk, social group adventures, gentle puppy visits or extra support for older pets.

My aim is to give owners peace of mind knowing their animals are cared for, exercised and happy while they’re busy, working or away.

If you’ve been thinking about getting some extra support with your pets, feel free to message me and ask any questions 💛

One thing that stops people reaching out…

“I don’t know how my dog will react with someone new.”

Honestly? That’s completely understandable.
Your dog is family — and trusting someone else with them can feel like a big step, especially if they’re nervous, reactive, older, or just very attached to you.

That’s why I never expect dogs to instantly feel comfortable.

I take time getting to know them properly, move at their pace, and make sure they feel safe before anything else.

Some dogs are confident straight away.
Some need a little patience.
Both are completely okay.
The goal is always the same:
a calm, positive experience where your dog feels secure and cared for.

If this has been the thing putting you off reaching out, feel free to message me with any questions — no pressure at all 🐾

You do not need to do this perfectly. 🐾

A little reminder for the dog owners who are putting way too much pressure on themselves right now…

Your dog does not need a perfectly structured day.

They do not need endless enrichment activities.

They do not need flawless training sessions.

And you do not need to have everything figured out all at once.

So many owners are overthinking every little thing because they care so much about getting it “right.”

But honestly?

Consistency, kindness, patience, and showing up matter far more than perfection ever will.
Some days will feel easy.
Some days will feel messy.
That’s normal.

If things feel overwhelming, strip it back to one small next step:
🐶 one calm walk
🐶 one bit of training
🐶 one moment of connection

That is enough.

Progress over perfection — always. ❤️

What life can feel like when your dog’s routine finally feels easier 🐾

No rushing home feeling guilty.

No worrying that they’re bored, restless or not getting enough stimulation.

No stressful walks squeezed into an already full day.

Instead…

You finish work knowing your dog has had fresh air, exercise, enrichment and company.
You come home to a calmer, happier dog.
The pulling eases.
The pent-up energy settles.
The guilt lifts.

Because it’s never just about getting the walk done —

it’s about how life feels around your dog too.
That’s exactly what I support my clients with through reliable, caring dog walks that fit into real life 🤍

If you’re ready for more calm, balance and peace of mind in your dog’s routine, message me to chat 🐶

What matters most to me in this work 🐾

There are a few values that shape everything I do with dogs — and they’ll always matter more to me than quick fixes or appearances.

🤎 Trust
Dogs deserve to feel safe, understood and listened to. I never want a dog to feel forced, frightened or overwhelmed. Building trust takes time, consistency and patience — but it creates the strongest relationships.

🌿 Calm, natural experiences
I believe dogs thrive when they can just be dogs. Sniffing, exploring, moving naturally, learning at their own pace and enjoying calm walks in the countryside instead of constant pressure or overstimulation.

🐕 Individual care
No two dogs are the same. Their personalities, confidence levels, energy and needs all differ — and I think they deserve care that reflects that. I always try to work with the dog in front of me, not a one-size-fits-all approach.

For owners, I hope this means peace of mind. Knowing your dog is cared for with kindness, patience and genuine understanding matters deeply to me.

At the end of the day, this work is never just about walking dogs. It’s about relationships, trust and helping dogs feel happy, secure and fulfilled. 🤍

Do these values matter to you too? What do you value most in a dog professional? 🐾

What I’d do if my dog got overexcited on walks… 🐾

If this was my dog, I wouldn’t start by trying to “wear them out” with longer walks.
I’d actually slow things down first.

Here’s where I’d begin:
• I’d pay attention to when they become overexcited
• I’d choose calmer walking routes for a while
• I’d focus on shorter, more positive walks instead of overwhelming ones

A lot of dogs aren’t being “naughty” when they bark, pull, zoom around or struggle to settle on walks.

They’re often overstimulated, frustrated, or struggling to regulate their excitement.
Sometimes calmer, more structured experiences help far more than simply adding more exercise.

Every dog is different, but understanding why the behaviour is happening is usually the best place to start ❤️

Save this if this sounds familiar.

And if you need help figuring out what’s going on with your dog, feel free to message me 🐶

Before you choose a dog professional… look at how they make your dog feel — not just how “well behaved” the dog appears.

A calm, confident dog matters far more than quick fixes or perfect obedience.

One thing many owners overlook is weather the person working with their dog is building trust, understanding body language, and adapting to the individual dog in front of them.

Because every dog is different.

Some dogs need confidence-building.

Some need patience.

Some simply need someone who understands their pace and personality.

The right support should help both the dog and the owner feel more relaxed, understood, and supported — not judged or pressured.

That’s something I always believe should come first ❤️

With the warmer weather expected next week, your dog’s safety and comfort will always come first at Rachel’s Rambles 🐾

During higher temperatures I will be adapting walks and services to help keep every dog happy, safe and comfortable by:

💧 Carrying fresh water on all walks
🐾 Checking pavement temperatures before walks
🌳 Choosing shaded routes where possible
🏡 Offering shorter walks, drop-ins or indoor play instead of long walks during peak heat
❤️ Taking extra care with puppies, senior dogs, flat-faced breeds and dogs more sensitive to heat

If it’s too hot for us, it’s too hot for them ☀️
Thank you for trusting Rachel’s Rambles with your wonderful dogs — their wellbeing will always be my top priority 🩷

One thing I wish more dog owners knew is that qualifications and experience matter — but so does how your dog feels around that person.

A good dog professional shouldn’t just “handle” dogs. They should understand them, respect their boundaries, and adapt to each dog as an individual.

Something people often overlook is the importance of trust, patience and calm energy. Dogs pick up on so much more than we realise, and the right support should leave them feeling safe, comfortable and happy — not stressed or overwhelmed.

Whether it’s a dog walker, trainer, sitter or groomer, it’s worth asking:
✨ How do they approach nervous dogs?
✨ Do they prioritise safety over convenience?
✨ Are they willing to adapt to your dog’s needs?

Choosing the right support can make such a positive difference, not just for your dog, but for your own peace of mind too 🩷

You do not need to fix everything at once.

Not the pulling.
Not the barking.
Not the jumping.
Not the guilt.
Not all of it.

When you’re overwhelmed, your nervous system is overloaded too — and that affects your dog as much as it affects you.

So instead of trying to solve everything at once…

Pick ONE thing.
One calmer walk.
One enrichment activity.
One training moment.
One small win.

Progress is built from small, repeatable steps — not pressure and panic.
And if today is simply keeping everyone fed, safe, and loved?

That still counts.
💛 Overwhelm makes everything feel urgent.
💛 Your dog does not need perfection.
💛 Small wins still count.
