I actually can not believe it! What a rollercoaster! After just over 5 months of lockdown, stress, heart ache and hard work OLD PEEL LIVERY IS FINALLY FREE OF STRANGLES!
It has been a turbulent and educational time, I sincerely hope that this never happens to us again, but hand on heart if we were that unlucky I would manage it in the same way again.
I strongly believe there needs to be far more awareness and far less stigma around the disease. For that reason I have created a video diary of our journey as an insight not only from a yard owners perspective but a horse owners perspective also. I hope that at least someone may find it of some value.
Most importantly my thank you’s!
I can’t thank you all enough. The support we have received from people of all parts of the equestrian world has been of great comfort and very much appreciated by everyone here at Old Peel.
Our staff have been absolutely incredible. They have followed all of the extensive protocols to the letter and did it whilst keeping morale up. Without their amazing efforts the yard could have been in a much worse position. So a humongous thank you to them 👏 👏👏👏👏
The clients have been amazing. They have agreed to everything we needed them to do without causing a fuss. The yard came together to work as a whole to keep as many horses as we could safe and protect and look after those that needed additional care.
Finally, we could not have done anything at all without the support, guidance, expertise and dedication from the vets. Niamh and the team from Wright and Morten have gone above and beyond for us. Niamh has been accessible for advice at the drop of a hat whether she is working or not and at all hours of the day. She has worked with the specialists to ensure our plans and ex*****on of them have always been the gold standard! Everyone agreed the outbreak has been a particularly bad strain, with one curve ball after another and I personally can’t thank Niamh enough for the endless support and advice, I honestly could not have got through it without her!
If you have the patience please do watch the video which I will post shortly! It may seem like a lot of me rambling! but it is real life, real emotion and could happen to anyone of us. I believe if we can all be more aware of the disease and what we can do to prevent it, the equestrian community will be all the better for it!
Moving forwards to help protect our liveries we will only be taking on new liveries that are tested to be clear of strangles and clinics will have strict guidelines as to where non liveries can go.
Those who I have on a wait list wishing to book a viewing appointment I will be in touch over the next week or so. Thank you for your patience!
Thank you all, here’s to a happier, healthier 2024 🥰 🐎 👏 🥂
