✨ You don't need to train your dog for an hour a day.✨

And honestly? If you've got kids, work, a house to run, meals to cook and approximately 742 other things happening… who has time for that?! 😂

Dog training doesn't have to mean setting aside a big chunk of your day.

Sometimes it's:

✨ Asking for a sit while you put their dinner down.
✨ Practising a recall while the kids are playing in the garden.
✨ Rewarding your dog for settling while you're making dinner.
✨ Doing 2 minutes of loose lead practice on the school run.
✨ Asking them to wait while you open the door.
✨ Giving them a chew while you get the children ready for bed.
✨ Rewarding them for choosing to come away from something exciting.

And sometimes…

you don't train at all.

And that's okay too. ❤️

Your dog doesn't need you to be a perfect dog trainer. They need you to build training into everyday life in a way that's realistic and sustainable for YOUR family.

Because the best training plan is one you'll actually be able to stick to.

👇 Be honest…

What's the biggest thing that gets in the way of training your dog?

A) Work
B) Kids/family life
C) Lack of time
D) I forget 😂
E) My dog has other ideas!

✨🤎T E D D Y🤎✨

I've had the pleasure of working with this cute little sausage 🌭 for a couple of weeks now. His lovely owners got in touch for support with some general training and his excitement around dogs/people.

This guy is super clever and I can't wait to see how he progresses 🥰.

🧩 Could your dog's food be part of the bigger picture?

When we're dealing with behaviour, we often immediately think about training.

“Why won't my dog listen?”

“Why are they so hyper?”

“Why can't they settle?”

“Why are they struggling today?”

But behaviour doesn't happen in isolation.

Sleep, environment, stress, physical health, exercise, genetics… and nutrition can all be pieces of the puzzle.

After ruling out any medical causes with a thorough vet check, it is a good idea to take a look at a dog's diet. 🧐

That doesn't mean changing your dog's food is going to magically “fix” a behaviour problem. It means it's worth considering the whole dog rather than looking at one piece in isolation.

That's something I've become increasingly interested in, and it's one reason I've been exploring Pure Pet Food. I'm seeing some great results with our dog and I've had great reports from clients too.

Sometimes I DON'T want you to ask your dog to sit. 😱

Yep, you read that right! 😂

“Sit” is a brilliant skill but sometimes, when your dog is struggling, asking them to sit isn't actually what they need.

Imagine your dog sees another dog or a person and becomes worried, frustrated or overly excited. Your instinct might be to ask them to “sit" but what if what your dog actually needs is DISTANCE? This gives them space and time to make a good decision.

Think of something that makes you uncomfortable, would you want to sit next to it?! For me it's wasps and the answer is absolutely NOT! 🐝

Training isn't about making our dogs stay still and tolerate everything we put in front of them.
It's about teaching them skills, but also listening to what they're communicating.

So yes, teach your dog to sit, but don't feel like you have to ask for a sit every time something happens!

Sometimes the best training decision you can make is - “Let's just move away.” 🐾

🐾 What I DON'T do during behaviour consultations 🐾

When you have a dog with a behaviour problem, it's easy to worry that a trainer is going to arrive and judge you.

So let me tell you what I don't do. 👇

❌ I don't judge you.

You don't need to apologise for your dog's behaviour or feel embarrassed about what's happening. You're asking for help and that's a good thing.

❌ I don't expect your dog to behave perfectly for me.

In fact, I need to see what you're actually struggling with so I can understand what's going on.

❌ I don't use a one-size-fits-all training plan.

Every dog, owner and situation is different. What works brilliantly for one dog might not be appropriate for another.

❌ I don't focus solely on stopping the behaviour.

I want to understand why it's happening and what your dog is communicating, so we can work towards meaningful change rather than simply putting a plaster over the problem.

❌ I don't expect overnight results.

Behaviour change takes time. There may be brilliant days, difficult days and everything in between.

❌ And I definitely don't expect you to be perfect!

You're learning too. ❤️

My job isn't to tell you everything you're doing wrong. It's to listen, understand what's happening, help you understand your dog and give you practical strategies that you can actually use in real life.Behaviour support should leave you feeling more confident and empowered, not judged. 🙌

If you're struggling with your dog's behaviour, you don't have to wait until it becomes completely overwhelming before asking for help. Get in touch today and see how we can work together to support your dog point.

🐾 NATIONAL DOG DAY 🐾

Let’s celebrate our dogs with a little challenge…
If you could only use ONE word to describe your dog, what would it be? 👀

Funny? Chaotic? Loyal? Dramatic? Crazy? Cuddly? Stubborn? Perfect? 😂

🐾 3 signs your dog might need more than a standard training class... 👇

Group classes can be brilliant for learning new skills, practising around distractions and building confidence but they're not the right environment for every dog.

Here are 3 signs that your dog might benefit from some individual support instead:

1️⃣ They struggle to focus when other dogs are around.

If your dog is so excited, frustrated, worried or distracted by the other dogs that they can't engage with you, trying to teach them new skills in a busy class can be incredibly difficult. The environment can actually exacerbate the behaviours.

2️⃣ Their behaviour is affecting everyday life.

Maybe walks have become stressful. You avoid certain places. Visitors are difficult. Your dog struggles around other dogs or people. When behaviour starts affecting what you and your dog can comfortably do day-to-day, it's worth getting some individual support.

3️⃣ You're feeling overwhelmed or just don't know what to do.

This one is just as important. You might have tried advice from friends, social media, Google, YouTube or even previous training classes… and you're still thinking:
“I don't know what I'm supposed to do next.”
You don't have to figure it all out on your own. ❤️

With 1-to-1 training, we can look at your dog, your situation and your specific challenges and then work out a plan that fits into your real life.

Needing individual support doesn't mean you've got a “bad” dog or that you've failed as an owner. Sometimes your dog simply needs a different approach. 🐶❤️

If this sounds familiar, send me a message and we can chat about whether 1-1 training might be the right option for you.

🐶 So… what actually happens in my group puppy classes?

It's probably not quite what you might expect!
Yes, we learn things like:
🐾 Sit
🐾 Down
🐾 Wait
🐾 Recall
🐾 Loose lead walking
🐾 Leave it
🐾 Target training
🐾 Going to bed

…but puppy class isn't just about teaching your puppy a list of cues.

It's about helping you understand how your puppy learns, building a relationship with them and giving you the skills to continue their training at home.

We work on things like:
✨ Focus around distractions
✨ Impulse control
✨ Settling
✨ Confidence
✨ Communication
✨ Making training fun
✨ Helping puppies learn to cope in a busy environment

And perhaps most importantly…
We don't expect puppies to be perfect. ❤️
They're still babies!

There will be distractions. There will be excitement. There will be puppies who forget everything they've ever learned the moment they walk through the door. 😂

That's exactly why we're there!!

My goal isn't for you to leave after 5 weeks with a “perfect” puppy. It's for you to leave feeling more confident, better equipped and excited to keep training together. 🐾

Because puppyhood isn't about creating a perfect dog. It's about laying the foundations for the adult dog they're going to become.💜

Something you might not know about me… 🩺🐶

Before I became a dog trainer, I was actually a nurse (my last role was as a contraception and sexual health nurse)!

Yep… I went from looking after humans to working with dogs. 😂

When I think about it, the two careers aren't actually as different as they might seem! One of the biggest things nursing taught me was that every person is different. There isn't one approach that works for everyone, and sometimes you have to listen, adapt and look at the bigger picture to work out what someone actually needs. That's something I've carried with me into my work with dogs because I'm not just training dogs, I'm helping owners understand their dogs, work through challenges and feel more confident in what they're doing. Just like people, every dog is different too. 🐾

There isn't a magical bit of training that works for every dog, every family or every situation. Sometimes you have to step back, look at the whole picture and work out what this particular dog and their person need. 🥰

So perhaps becoming a dog trainer wasn't quite as much of a career change as it first appeared… ❤️

Did you know I used to be a nurse?!
