This Pride month we'd like to take a moment to celebrate some members of our team who are part of the LGBTQ+ community 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
Here at The Retreat we're completely inclusive, regardless of someone's gender identity or sexuality - or indeed their race, age, disability, social class, or anything at all. After all, as a vegan sanctuary we see all beings as equal, regardless of any "differences". We have deeply valued members of our team who are gay, bi, le***an, trans, non-binary, and we're proud to be a supportive safe space for everyone. So if anyone reading this has been wanting to visit or volunteer, but was nervous about being accepted - don't be! As long as you're a compassionate person, you will find kindness, allies, and open arms here.
In fact, we're actually gay-founded. Our founder, Billy, came out as a teenager, and has been with Neil since 1996. A couple of years after it was made possible for same-sex couples to wed, they married in 2008. They have worked so hard over the past 30 years together to grow The Retreat and help thousands and thousands of animals.
Happy Pride month to all of our supporters, but we hope that soon Pride won't need to be a thing, as we dream of a world where everyone has the same rights and acceptance in society
