Today I had to say goodbye to my beautiful German shepherd Mia, and it's absolutely soul-destroying. Yesterday she was running around with my granddaughter, and today, during her operation, she passed away. Here today, gone tomorrow. Look after your dogs, friends and family; you never know when they will be gone.

Have you already paid a trainer, only to be told your dog can't be fixed?

There is nothing more crushing than finally asking for help, handing over your money, and having a professional tell you that your dog just needs to be managed on medication for the rest of their life. Or worse, being told that you are the problem because you aren't throwing treats fast enough. You leave feeling more hopeless than when you started.

Please hear this: a trainer failing to fix your dog does not mean your dog is unfixable. It just means that specific approach failed. When you limit yourself to only one way of training, you limit the dogs you can help. Balanced training gives you the full range of communication tools, and it gets results where management-only approaches run out of road.

"It's just a dog, why are you so stressed about it?"

If one more person says this to you, you might actually scream. People who have easy dogs think your stress is an overreaction. They think you're choosing to be anxious. They don't understand that your dog's behaviour dictates your schedule, your social life, your finances, and your mental health. It is never just a dog. It is a massive, disruptive force in your daily life, and pretending otherwise helps nobody.

You are allowed to be deeply affected by this. Your stress is a completely rational response to an incredibly difficult situation. You don't need to justify your feelings to people who don't get it. You just need to find the people who do, and start taking the steps to regain control of your life.
