Sometimes it's not always about the muscle work.

I have a number of clients who are healthy sports/working dogs and put 100% into everything they do. My maintenance check-ins are there to see if any niggles are developing, so a proactive approach can be taken.

But, even when all is well the dogs still benefit from all aspects of Galen Myotherapy. For many high energy dogs the rest and digest (parasympathetic) part of the nervous system sits in the background so when you get the following message,

"Dogs have all passed out 😁"

You know that it's not just the muscular system that has benefitted from the treatment but the nervous system too.

I am heading off on holiday tomorrow and once I'm on the autobahn the podcasts will come out.

This is one I will be listening to.

From my own experience I know the impact my dodgy ankle has on the whole right side of my body and if I just looked at the ankle I would still have a uncomfortable glute and shoulder!

It's important to consider any animal in the same way. A dog is not just made up of its component parts so why would we look just at a single joint or area, as a Galen Myotherapist this is one of the first things we are taught the dog "as a whole".

"Thanks for this afternoon. It was fabulous to watch and experience".

This made me smile and a reminder that we can also have a positive impact on a caregiver too.

Rafferty, the Irish Water Spaniel, has a number of issues and his guardian wasn't sure he would settle but using the Galen Myotherapy Positive Pact © protocol we were able to build on every session and alongside his primary care vet ease the discomfort he was feeling.

Rafferty is off on a new adventure soon but our 3 sessions have given him a base to understand the Galen Myotherapy process and hopefully he will continue the journey in his new home.

Such a great visual on how we need to see the dog in front of us as a whole and not just individual parts 🐾

Chronic pain is complex.

It is not always linked to a single injury or condition and can be influenced by factors such as compensation patterns, muscular tension, previous injuries, and mobility changes.

Dogs experiencing chronic pain may show subtle signs including changes in movement, posture, behaviour, performance, or sleep.

Because chronic pain is multifactorial, support often involves a multidisciplinary approach to help improve comfort, mobility, function, and quality of life; and this is where a Galen Myotherapist is an invaluable member of your dog’s team.

This week I've been to see two clients who I first met through Canicross. Both are now retired but they are still young at heart 💖

Maxy Max and Captain Jack both see me for regular maintenance sessions. This is an opportunity to check for any compensatory changes as well as just a time to relax.
