My name is Emma Johnson, I am a registered and qualified veterinary nurse with over 24 years of experience. Most recently working for 10 years as head nurse for Fitzpatrick referrals an orthopaedic and neurology veterinary hospital, managing a team of 80 veterinary nurses and auxilliarys and overseeing the care of over 60 patients at a time. I decided i wanted to start my own business caring for a

nimals on a day to day basis and in October 2015 I started Wentworth Retreat. I have gained a number of qualifications and experience making me highly regarded as a veterinary professional. I began pursuing a career in veterinary nursing in general practice 21 years ago in 1996. During this time I have developed nursing interests in a variety of disciplines. This included anaesthesia, pain management and post-operative care in small animals. In 2001 I qualified as a veterinary nurse with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and went on to successfully gain my assessor qualification. This gave me the opportunity to support and guide undergraduate veterinary nurses of the future during their three year training programme. I continue to pursue my own professional development and in 2008 was awarded the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons 'Advanced nursing diploma in medical nursing' and further went on to gain the 'Royal Veterinary College Graduate Diploma in Professional and Clinical Veterinary Nursing' in 2012. I completed a grooming diploma in 2018 and 2021 completed an advanced behaviour diploma. In 2023 I completed a graduate diploma in veterinary physiotherapy. My passion to develop my own and my team of nurses’ skills and training and promote the awareness of the Registered Veterinary Nurse status within the veterinary profession overall led to my appointment in 2014 as a regional coordinator for veterinary nurse training in Surrey with the British Veterinary Nursing Association. I fulfilled the requirements of this role voluntarily and dedicated my own personal time. licence number 36642

Poor D underwent his 3rd surgery for IVDD.😟

🙌I have never met more devoted owners. They have slept with him on the ground floor, turned sofas around, ramps everywhere for 2 years but sadly some patients are predisposed to this condition.🙌

His only signs this time were his tail didnt wag but sadly this progressed to lameness and pain

Thankfully he recovers better each time and with physio and a slow increase in exercise is doing very well.❤️

💦Regular nursing checks to ensure no deterioration in her condition.
💦Regular updates for the owner

And bowel monitoring.

All rehab patients have totally separate areas, are able to enjoy lots of fulfilment within their needs and ability and still in a loving home environment!

🙏This chap has made his way home after a 2 week stay following spinal surgery.

The owners contacted me because they were concerned he hadn't made any progress in 11 days at home and he was still dragging his feet.

✨️During his stay I performed intensive physio 3 times a day and nursing care.✨️

I am super pleased with his progress and his owners have a plan to follow at home.
Video 1 when he arrived in the comments and video 2 today is here ❤️

This poor chap has arrived following major elbow surgery. Sadly he will need surgery on his contralateral limb early June.

He is doing so well, I removed his sutures today and so can have short periods without his collar on.

Super happy with his progress so far☀️🙏

🌼I am sure some dogs are sent to us for a reason.🌼

😔Our little Tilly started showing some mild neuro signs recently. She was referred to Lumbry park who promptly did an MRI. Thank you to the amazing lumbry park team and especially Colin for his quick diagnosis.💓

Thankfully for now we are trying medical management but we have a surgical option should we need it.

♥️This lovely lady is back for a holiday stay.♥️

She has a sacral nerve implant to empty her bladder.

She is grade 5 so requires assistance of wheels to walk and daily nursing care.

She absolutely loves life and is the sweetest girl.

Her sister comes too who has had spinal issues perviously which are managed conservatively ✨️

🙏One of my recent spinal patients made her journey home after 3 weeks of rehabilitation.🙏

She had some movement in one of her hind limbs when she arrived but could not hold her weight and would knuckle. She had no bladder function so was expressed 4 x a day.

✨️Intensive nursing care including 3 x a day physio and lots of motivation was essential.( those who know Dachshunds know the last 3 months of weather has not been the best)✨️

Super pleased with what we have achieved. She also has started lifting her tail, squatting and passing urine. This was not expected due to the site of the surgery.
