HAPPY INTERNATIONAL SLOTH DAY!! 🦥💚

Here’s some cool sloth facts for you all…..

🍃Sloths have the lowest metabolic rate of any mammal, which means that it takes them up to 30 days to digest anything. They have a diet of leaves, buds and tender shoots!

💩 Sloths climb down from their trees only about once a week to p**p on the ground, losing up to a third of their body weight in a single go!

👀 Sloths have very poor eyesight, Thankfully sloths compensate for such poor vision by having a phenomenal sense of smell and a great spatial memory!

🪳Besides the green algae and fungi living in the sloth's hair, the sloth's fur in the wild also provides a home to an entire ecosystem of invertebrates, some species of which are found nowhere else on earth!

💤 Sloths have specialized tendons in their hands and feet that lock into place, allowing them to hang upside down to eat and sleep. They sleep for up to 15 hours per day!

Come and Visit our beautiful Sloths!!

On Thursday 1st October Fazula the Red Panda arrived from Sparsholt College.

Fazula was born on the 20th June 2025 and joins Flint our 3 year old male. We are hopeful that in the next couple of years the pair will breed.

Red Pandas are classified as Endangered by the IUCN Red List and this transfer was part of an international breeding programme. The
studbook keeper manages the captive population of Red Pandas to make sure that
breeding is controlled and genetic diversity is maintained. ❤️🐾

A huge THANK YOU to our amazing team of zookeepers this International Zoo Keeper Day! 🐸🕷️🐊🦘🐢🦜🦩🦥

Behind every happy, healthy animal at our zoo is a group of dedicated keepers who give 100% every single day—rain or shine, 365 days a year.

Our keepers are much more than just animal caregivers—they are Chefs, Cleaners, Builders, Educators & Conservationists too!

It is hard physical work and a true labour of love, we simply couldn’t do it without them.

Drop a 💚 in the comments to show our keepers some love!
