We are often asked, “How can I help birds of prey?” 🌳🪴🍃

We have been sharing some ways you can help them

Number 2: Leave ivy growing on trees and walls

Ivy is not parasitic/ does not take nutrients from the tree and rarely harms it (unless it overtakes the crown and blocks light!)

It also doesn’t damage sound brickwork and may even help protect it from weathering. Bonus!

Leaving ivy on trees and walls can result in many wildlife benefits; it can provide excellent nesting habitats, nectar for pollinators, and winter berries for birds. 🍓🐦‍⬛

This all helps sustain a healthy food chain for birds of prey! 🪺🐦

Last year we started a relationship with Blouberg Nature Reserve in Limpopo Province, South Africa to protect Vulnerable Cape Vultures. We are supporting this initiative across the largest breeding colony of these vultures in the world, by rescuing and rehabilitating young birds from the muti trade

We have seen 18 come in and receive care at Blouberg – an important step in sustaining this population.

Together, with your support, we can give these birds a chance at survival.

Our Crested Caracara Flo is such a beautiful bird, and one of the most intelligent too! 💚
As is typical of Crested Caracaras, she’s very comfortable taking low flights and moving around on the ground.
Don't forget you can build your own nests with us as part of our daily activities! https://www.hawk-conservancy.org/your-visit/daily-activities/

We're all staying cool here at the

Some of the ways we do this are by:
- feeding food in ice blocks (keeps the food cold and as they eat it, they consume water too)
- some birds like water spray/running water when it’s hot so they get a lovely cool water bath

Like this post if you want to see more Birds of Prey (or staff!) keeping cool or come and see for yourself! https://www.hawk-conservancy.org/your-visit/
