Exposure first obedience can follow!

It is super important your dog can see, learn and understand the world. My process for any puppy is very simple ⬇️

• Foundations!

This includes building communication, motivation, engagement, pressure and most of all relationship!

• Exposure!

Alongside setting your foundations at home, take your dog out, let them see the world and expose them to everything and anything! This done right will build confidence, clarity and a strong foundation for bringing your obedience into the real world down the line!

• Obedience!

Build your obedience at home and gradually bring into the real world! Most struggle with obedience not because it’s difficult or their dog can’t do it, but because they skip the above ⬆️

• Proofing!

Before looking to bring your obedience into the real world it’s important to do set up environments which mimic that of the real world! This could be as simple as using a friend as a distraction!

• Now it’s time to join the two!

Now you have your foundations, exposure, obedience & you’ve proofed it all it’s time to bring the obedience to the real world!

For more information on how you can achieve this feel free to pm or call us or comment “real world” for my FREE guide!

The vets!

For years I listened to the wrong advice from vets which resulted in Odin becoming aggressive towards vets.

Even the simple check ups were a nightmare resulting in damaging our relationship, repetition of bad behaviour and his general picture of the vets being negative.

Today we over came that! 🙏⬇️

✅ Has previously gone to attack vets and was a bite risk, a number of vets refused to see him.

✅ Found the vets very stressful and the picture to him was always resulting in a fight response.

✅ He would have to be heavily sedated for even general health check ups.

✅ Through having numerous ear infections his association was always preemption of pain/discomfort hence causing the automatic fight response and negative association.

This needed to change and the generic approach of “pin him against the wall” only ever enhanced the behaviour. If that is your vets advice it’s simple find another who will work with you not against you.

So what did I do?

✅ I found an amazing vet who was willing to listen and apply everything!

✅ I focused on changing Odin’s vets picture / emotional response. I did a number of trips to the vets just simply to play and do things Odin enjoys!

✅ I desensitised Odin to touch, presence and noise using aversion techniques in multiple environments starting in neutral environments then building this same picture into the vets!

✅ I built strong source focus and utilised this to develop resilience, aversion to touch, presence and noise.

✅ I didn’t rush! Strong emotions were behind his behaviour, not to mention years of bad repetitions. Taking time, building strong foundations and working with your dog not against them will all factored into success!

Is your dog stressed in the vets? Here’s the first 5 steps I took:

✅ Find a good vet!!

✅ Build drive and motivation! This is the fuel you’ll need to get started!

✅ Focus on using this motivation to alter emotional responses attached to things! Dogs are emotional beings!

✅ Change pictures! If your dog associates the vets as a negative gradually work to alter those feelings!

✅ Build source focus on the motivator (food or ball) and then begin aversion and desensitisation!

Nalas handover! ❤️

I have raised Nala from 8 weeks old so this one is bitter sweet to say the least!

Nala is a driven, talented and loving girl and will make her new owners extremely happy! ❤️

Watching this girl grow, develop and learn over our time together has taught me so much and I’ll be forever grateful for her! ❤️

As emotional as it is, I am super excited for what the future holds for Nala aka scrappy doo and can’t wait to see what she gets up to on the next chapters of her life ❤️

Old dogs new tricks? 10000%!

This boy is coming up 8 1/2 soon would you believe it! He still shines in the work, still gives it 110% and most of all still shows me he wants to work so we keep going!

Now we have achieved our ZWP1 & ZWP2 we are looking to trial on an upcoming trial to gain his PSA PDC and then hope to achieve our PSA1 prior to his retirement but we will see how he goes!

From an active security dog to sport! Proof of just how well dogs adapt if you know how to teach them!

—————————————————————————-

This is one of the protection scenarios in the PDC called the car jack.

You’re scored not just on your dog’s protection performance but also the obedience before the scenario even begins.

Your dog must bark up at the decoy, bite when the decoy attacks the car and then out off the bite on command followed by continuing to bark at the decoy as he backs off.

Training tools ⚒️ 👀

Common belief is that all training tools ⚒️ are evil, torture like devices that shut down, cause pain and create fear.

I’m here to prove to you that’s nothing but a myth. My dog, the one in this video has been trained using balanced techniques since pup. He’s able to go anywhere and everywhere completely naked now and 100% reliably too.

As you can see he’s a naked boy 🤣

What I find amusing is the people claiming this ⬆️ often have no proof, no results and can’t back any claims they make. I do wonder why 🧐

Take hair dryers for example, designed to dry hair. However, if someone decided to use it in a bad way ie hit someone with it, it’s going to hurt right? So who’s at fault? The tool for drying hair or the person using it in a malicious manner?
