What may seem small to some people is a HUGE win to others!

Billy has been working so hard, and this week we had a breakthrough that I couldn’t be prouder of!

I’ve been trying all sorts of ways to make food and toys more valuable to Billy when we’re out on our adventures, but the truth is, the world is just SO exciting to him! 🌿 Every smell, sight and sound is more interesting than anything I could offer.

As wonderful as it is to have a dog who loves exploring the world, it can also make training tricky. When everything around you is more exciting than you are, rewarding those lovely behaviours, building engagement and practising important skills can feel almost impossible.

But this week, something clicked! Billy’s brain was calm enough for him to take an interest in treats, practise some tricks and, even more excitingly, continue taking treats whilst exploring woodland areas!

To some, a dog taking a treat might not seem like much. But for Billy, this was a HUGE step forward. It shows us that he’s beginning to feel able to slow down, process his surroundings and engage with me even when the world is full of exciting things.

Progress isn’t always about perfect walks, instant recall or mastering a new trick. Sometimes, it’s about the little moments that show us our dogs are learning, growing and becoming more comfortable in the world around them. ❤️

I’m immensely proud of Billy and can’t wait to see where we go next! 🐾

Celebrate the little wins. They’re often the biggest ones of all. ✨

Every day I have a reminder of how incredibly lucky I am not just to see all of the amazing pups I do but to have such a lovely bond with them and watch them grow ❤️ Being rich isn’t about money… I’m rich because my days look like this and even when life gets tough I have all of these little faces to brighten my day 🐾

Name a better way to spend a Friday afternoon than training a goofball a fun trick! 😂🐾

Today Ozzy learnt “go around” and he picked it up SO quickly! What a clever boy! 🥰

And I didn’t just do this for fun (although we definitely had fun!)…

Incorporating little bits of training into your walks is an amazing way to get your dog’s brain working alongside their body. 🧠🐶

Training on walks can help to:
🐾 Add mental stimulation to their day.
🐾 Break up the usual routine and keep walks interesting.
🐾 Build engagement and communication between you and your dog.
🐾 Encourage your dog to explore and think about their environment.
🐾 Give them opportunities to make choices and problem-solve.
🐾 Build confidence when learning new things in different environments.

Here we’re using Ozzy’s favourite thing EVER a ball 🎾 as “payment” for his amazing work. Finding what motivates your dog and using it as reinforcement makes learning even more exciting for them!

Walks should be about more than just getting from A-B. They’re an opportunity to sniff, explore, play, learn, practise skills and spend quality time together. ❤️

Training doesn’t always need to look like a formal training session, sometimes the best learning happens when you’re simply having fun together. 🐶✨
