Yesterdays workshop was certainly an environmentally challenging one - tight spaces, different floorings, accessing one of the search areas via open & wobbly stairs - every team had their own successes 💪

It was also a day of emotions - For 3 of us, the last time we searched this venue
was with our previous dog(s) who are sadly no longer with us 😢 A time of remembering what a fab life we gave them, how lucky we were to spend that time with them and how much they taught us along the way. 🥰 🌈 🐶

Overall a fantastic workshop - looking forward to being back at this venue again very soon.

During yesterdays college workshop we talked about and used hide placement to aid with search patterns and building the dogs expectation to find.

Mondays searches came with a few challenges. From looking at some out of reach hides in one area and working through some distracting environments in another these teams all worked hard to problem solve, progress & achieve 💪

Yesterday’s workshop certainly came with some challenges for both handlers and dogs.

There was no specific theme to yesterdays workshop as this venue presents itself with its own challenges form the weather, managing search areas and being constantly aware of of your surroundings.

Well done to you all, whilst it is a fun venue it certainly isn’t the easiest to search.

Yesterday saw our first sport detection workshop of 2026.

This was a general search workshop with hide placements varied to include some good problem solving for both the dogs and handlers.

Included were some good discussions about body language and considerations of odour movement and one hide in particular brought up the discussion of ‘when to step in and help and when not to’. A brilliant day had by all.

Today Happy Dog Training hosted Mark from Detection Training UK for a puppy/young dog workshop. After an initial discussion we focused today’s sessions around rewards, play & engagement.

Thank you Mark for coming down to a dingy wet Hampshire for today’s workshop.

Yesterdays college workshop saw us starting with a novel search area which then highlighted areas that the dogs/handlers needed to work on, allowing us to set a focus for each team for the day. We had teams focusing on sniffing where tasked, not rushing & teaching the dogs to natrually search at different heights.

We also discussed when to task, when not to task and what we are looking for in our dogs to determine when/how we could step in to help. A couple of our partnerships got to practise this in a few areas too.

Some amazing problem solving during today’s workshop 💪
