🌡️🐾 HOT WEATHER CAN BE DEADLY FOR DOGS 🐾🌡️
With the heat set to ramp up again this week I just wanted to create something to help assess when it's safe to take your dogs out as I've unfortunately witnessed a lot of dogs being walked on the pavement in midday heat already!
Dogs don’t sweat like we do, which means they can overheat incredibly quickly even on days that don’t feel particularly hot to us.
Heatstroke can develop in minutes and can be fatal. Certain dogs, including flat-faced breeds, larger breeds, senior dogs, puppies, and dogs with health conditions, are at even greater risk.
🐶 Remember:
❄️ Walk early in the morning or later in the evening
💧 Always carry fresh water
🌳 Stick to shaded areas and grassy surfaces
🧊 Make frozen treats to help them cool down
💙 Use cooling mats, cooling bandanas, and fans
✋ Check pavements with the back of your hand before walking
🚨 Learn the signs of heatstroke and act quickly
Signs of heatstroke include:
• Excessive panting
• Heavy drooling
• Weakness or collapse
• Vomiting
• Disorientation
❤️ No dog has ever died from missing a walk.
If it's too hot, skip the walk and choose enrichment activities at home instead. A little caution could save a life.
