Old Stone Vets is a 4 vet mixed practice. We pride ourselves on providing excellent pateint care both during working hours and through our out-of-hours emergency service. If you should require a vet for an out-of-hours emergency call any of our branches and you will be put directly through to the vet on call. We run our own OOH service which means are clients speak directly to the on-call vet rath

er than to an independent OOH operator service who has no history/knowledge of our clients and their individual needs.

New Information regarding NIGHT & WEEKEND veterinary care

At Old Stone Vets we are continuing to provide your normal vet service. There is no change to this. All our surgeries are remaining open as usual and our vets and nursing/reception staff are all remaining committed to providing you, our clients with the best vet care we possibly can.

The nights and weekend vet cover is proving more difficult to keep providing with our own staff. Our clinical staff all work full 40-50 hour weeks and then we ask of them to work nights and weekends on top of this. This is unsustainable as we are having difficulty recruiting newer vets and nurses.

With this in mind, we have agreed with two other local independent practices in our area to pool our night and weekend staff together to offer all our clients a better service (staffed 24hrs with qualified vet nurses overnight) and vets on a lesser rota to allow them to function better during the day and provide clients with a better service.

Karl & Ed are both joining this new night & weekend only Out of Hours (OOH) vet service which will be run out of the hospital premises in Scott Mitchell Vets in Hexham. This means that for night or weekend emergency vet treatments you may see one of our vets or one of their vets but all cases will be seen at Hexham.

Most of you will never require an OOH (night or weekend) emergency visit to the vet. Some of you may have been unfortunate enough to have to use our service once or twice in a year. For you, this is an extra 10-20mins travelling distance for that potential once a year (average) OOH visit to the vets. For us (the staff providing the service) this makes a huge difference to our working lives, going from in some cases an 80-90hr week to a 50-55hr week. This means we are better able to provide you (our clients) with a continued normal vet service every day.

We are not shutting any surgeries; we are accepting all urgent/emergency cases during the day along with routine cases as normal.
This only effects NIGHT & WEEKEND vet care.

A BIG THANK YOU to all our loyal clients, farmers, horse owners and small animal owners.

We will now concentrate on Small Animal work at our three sites - Alston, Allendale and Stanhope. We will continue to be busy with examinations , surgeries and providing emergency care to dogs, cats and small pets.

From 1st July Fold Farm Vets will take over provision of farm vet care to our loyal farmers. Fold Farm Vets are an independant, dedicated farm practice in Hexham. Fold Farm Vets are on the road providing a great farm service across the North of England.

Hi. Our cat, Jasmine, has been missing from Bridge End Farm, Alston since Friday, 21st July. She was last seen wearing a sparkly red flea collar. If anybody may have seen her or know if her whereabouts, I'd be most obliged if they could contact me. Karen on 07788438365. Thank you.
She is a extremely friendly and inquisitive so maybe locked in somewhere. If anybody has handed her in and/or she needs treatment, we have no problem paying for her treatment.
