Going on holiday and leaving your dog with a home boarder, house sitter, kennels, or family members?

Even when your dog is well cared for, a change in environment and routine can have a surprising effect on their behaviour.

Dogs thrive on consistency. Different rules, different walking routines, and different ways of handling behaviour can leave them feeling confused or unsettled. Some dogs come home more clingy, excitable, or seemingly “forgetful” of their training.

This does not mean their training is ruined.

Most dogs simply need a few days to settle back into their normal routine.

To help prevent problems:

• Leave clear instructions about your dog’s routine and training cues
• Ask carers to keep rules as consistent as possible
• Provide familiar bedding, toys, and food
• Arrange a trial stay if your dog has never been left before
• Return to your normal routine as soon as you get home

A little preparation can make all the difference and help your dog feel secure while you are away.

If you are planning a holiday and would like advice on how to prepare your dog, send me a message and I’d be happy to help.

Sometimes I hate my dog. 😡

There, I said it. And honestly, some of my clients have felt exactly the same way. Not because they are bad people. Not because they do not love their dog. But because living with difficult behaviour day after day can become exhausting.

The barking that never stops.
The pulling on the lead that makes every walk stressful.
The lunging at other dogs.
The stealing, chewing, jumping up, whining, chasing, reacting, refusing to listen. The embarrassment when visitors come round.
The dread of taking your dog out in public.
The constant feeling of "I can't do this anymore."

People often feel guilty admitting it, but struggling with your dog can affect your whole life. Your stress levels. Your confidence. Your relationships. Even whether you can relax in your own home. The good news is that things can improve. So many owners put up with behaviour problems for years because they think nothing will work, or they worry about spending money on help. But investing in the right support can completely change life with your dog.

A calmer home.
More enjoyable walks.
Less stress.
More confidence.
A better relationship with your dog.

And often, the changes start with small, practical steps that make a huge difference over time. If you are struggling with your dog's behaviour, you do not have to just put up with it. I offer 1 to 1 behaviour support tailored to you and your dog, helping you create a calmer, happier life together. Feel free to message me if you would like to chat about how I can help 👉

Need help with your dog, but do not want weeks of classes or expensive home visits?

My 60 Minute Problem Solver is a focused online session designed to help you tackle real behaviour issues quickly, clearly, and effectively.

I am a canine behaviourist with 25 years of experience, and in just one hour we can often identify exactly why your dog is struggling and give you practical steps you can start using straight away.

This session is ideal for:

• Puppy chewing, nipping and biting
• Over excitement and jumping up
• Separation issues
• Car travel stress
• Recall problems
• Loose lead walking
• Barking and attention seeking
• General behaviour frustrations

Many people assume they need someone standing in the room to make progress, but that is not always true. In fact, much of successful behaviour work comes from understanding what is happening, changing routines, and applying the right techniques consistently at home, where the behaviour actually happens.

An online session gives you expert advice without the travel, without the waiting, and at excellent value.

It is convenient, focused, and often all you need to get back on track quickly.

If you would like calm, practical advice tailored to your dog, message me to book your 60 Minute Problem Solver. Only £49!

We often treat emotions like they’re separate from rational thinking - almost like an optional extra. We value logic, facts, and “just getting on with it,” while dismissing feelings as weakness.

But emotions aren’t the opposite of thinking - they’re part of it. You can’t have one without the other.

Emotions quietly shape how we see the world, what we prioritise, how we learn, and how we behave. Even when we think we’re being “purely rational,” emotions are still running in the background, guiding decisions.

When something carries emotional weight, the brain pays attention. That’s why we remember meaningful experiences so easily, but struggle to retain things that feel irrelevant.

The same applies to dogs.

If a dog is overwhelmed with fear, their brain is focused on survival - not learning. No amount of training will stick in that moment. On the other hand, a dog who feels safe and positive is far more able to learn, adapt, and respond appropriately.

So behaviour isn’t just about training or “good manners.” It’s driven by emotional state.

Understanding that changes everything when it comes to helping dogs.

Have you seen this in your dog?
