Zala arrived with a very full coat, and needed a reset, so after chatting with her owner, we decided the kindest and most comfortable option was to take her short and start fresh.

Removing mats and knots can be a long, slow process, and once we’d got the bulk of Zala’s coat off, she’d clearly had enough. She made it very clear she wasn’t comfortable with any more handling around her face, so we listened (even if that meant leaving a bit of fluff around her eyes) ❤️

Harness on, owner called, and a little time to decompress in the garden before Dad arrived to collect her. Treats supplied for being such a good girl 🥰

I didn’t manage to get a proper photo of the finished groom because we were eager to decompress, so this little garden snap will have to do! 😂

🐾 What really happens at a Calm Canine meet & greet? 🐾

A Meet & Greet is a short, super low-pressure introduction. There’s no expectation for your dog to do anything other than be themselves.

It’s a chance for you to get to know me too. I’ll tell you a little about myself and how I work, and you can ask me any questions you have about grooming, the process or your dog’s individual needs. It’s important to me that you feel your pup is safe with me.

For your dog, it’s an opportunity to:

🐶 Explore the grooming space at their own pace
🐶 Spend some time getting to know me
🐶 Enjoy some tasty treats for positive reinforcement
🐶 Explore the enrichment toys I have available to help them decompress
🐶 Experience the environment without the pressure of having to be groomed

It also gives me the opportunity to get to know your dog, asking questions about their history and personality, while observing things like their confidence levels, comfort in a new environment, coat condition and how they respond to handling.

It’s all about gathering information, building trust and making sure their groom is set up to be as positive and comfortable as possible 🥰

🐾 A little change at Calm Canine… 🐾

All new customers will need to arrange a free Meet & Greet before their dog’s first grooming appointment…

At Calm Canine, I take an ethical, welfare-first approach, with the aim of making grooming as calm, low-stress and comfortable as possible for every dog.

For me, that starts before the shampoo and scissors even come out.

Building familiarity and trust between me, your dog and my space is so important. Your intake form gives me lots of useful information about your pup, but there’s only so much you can learn from a form.

Grooming is a very hands on, one-to-one experience between a dog and their groomer. I want your dog to have the opportunity to meet me, explore the space, have some treats (obviously!) and start building those foundations without the pressure of a grooming appointment.

I believe taking this little bit of extra time at the beginning can make a big difference to how a dog feels about coming back to me in the future 🐶

There may be exceptional circumstances where a Meet & Greet can be waived, and this can be discussed when making an enquiry.

✨ Lola ✨

Lola came in today for her first groom with me, after two lovely meet & greets to help her get to know me and her new grooming environment 🐾

Today’s groom was all about continuing to build trust and keeping the experience as positive as possible.

She left with a very full belly after sampling plenty of tasty treats 😂 and because she was such a good girl, she even went home with her very own goodie bag.

We’ve got a few things to work on together for her next visit, but the most important thing for me was that Lola left feeling comfortable and relaxed 💕

My regular girl Ren 🧡

Ren doesn’t particularly enjoy the grooming process, so we always try to find those little moments of calm during her visits, such as a good chin tickle! 🐾🥰

It’s lovely getting to know my regulars and learning what helps them feel comfortable. For Ren, sometimes it’s simply a quiet pause, a cuddle and a few chin scratches, or her emotional support human.
