Busy roads, traffic noise and trails through town… not your average evening dog walk!

A super trailing session in Macclesfield yesterday evening with Teams Eddie, Maggie and Murphy.

We made the most of the quieter evening light to work along busy roads and practise road crossings. The noise and speed of traffic can be challenging for some dogs, understandably, but all three teams rose to the challenge and did brilliantly.

One of the real advantages of evening trailing is being able to get into town centres more easily and give our dogs experience of trailing in genuine urban environments. It’s a great way to build skills, work through challenges and help handlers learn to read their dogs in different situations.

And a little shout-out to Team Indy, who were supposed to join us tonight. Emma, we hope you’re doing okay and that we’ll see you back on the trails soon!

Fancy getting out on the trails with your dog? We welcome all breeds, ages, temperaments and experience levels, and tailor our sessions to the individual team.

Did you notice we’ve left a little gap in our evening trails around 5 November? Here’s why…

As we’re all too aware, fireworks aren’t restricted to Bonfire Night or organised displays. They can go off on pretty much any evening around that time, often without warning.

Even dogs who are generally fine with the bangs and flashes can be startled by an unexpected firework. And when we’re out trailing in the dark, the last thing we want is for one sudden noise to frighten a dog or put them in a situation where they don’t feel safe.

So we’ve made the decision not to run any evening sessions during the week of 5 November. It simply isn’t worth the risk.

Sometimes good dog training means knowing when not to train. We’d much rather keep everyone safe, warm and cosy at home than take an unnecessary chance with our dogs’ welfare.

But don’t worry, we’re not putting the torches away for the winter!

There are evening trails running before and after that week, and if you fancy something a little more flexible, you can always arrange an It Takes Two session at a time and location to suit you.

Because there’s plenty of trailing to enjoy through autumn and winter. We just need to be sensible about when and where we do it.

Who says trailing stops when the sun goes down…?

There’s something rather special about an evening trail in the dark. Torches on, noses down and suddenly the familiar world looks a little different.

For us humans, it’s a chance to practise trusting our dogs, pay closer attention to their body language and learning to follow their lead. For the dogs? It’s a chance to build confidence when the world looks, sounds a bit different.

We adapt the trails to the team in front of us, so whether you’re just starting out or have plenty of trailing under your belt, there’s something to enjoy. You might be surprised how quickly you forget it’s dark when you’re concentrating on your dog!

So don’t pack away your trailing kit just because the evenings are drawing in. Grab a torch, wrap up warm and come and see what your dog can do.

Fancy trying a night trail? Check out the upcoming evening sessions and get booked in. You might just discover your new favourite way to spend an evening!

**SOLD OUT** CHRISTMAS ROLLING TRAIL: CAN WE FIND RUDOLPH BEFORE THE BIG DAY?

We’re heading to Tatton Park for a very special Christmas rolling trail… can we track down Rudolph the red nosed Sausage Dog in time for Christmas…

Summary:
🐾 Six teams
🐾 £49 per team
🐾 Around 6km of rolling trail
🐾 Scent aged for 24+ hours
🐾 Approx 2-3 hours (subject to the dogs…)
🐾 Fabulous Tatton Park
🐾 And, if you fancy it, a group walk back to the cars with your trailing community
🐾 Book via our booking page as normal

This is your chance to experience trailing as part of a small group while your dog works across varied parkland terrain.

You’ll have just over 1km of trailing to complete, split across two or three separate trails. You’ll get to watch your dog pick up that 24-hour-old scent, work it through a changing environment and stay focused while navigating all the sights, sounds and smells that Tatton Park has to offer.

But there’s another part we really love about rolling trails…

Watching dogs settle into group life.

They get to learn that being around other trailing teams doesn’t mean they have to interact with them. They can focus on their job, settle when they’re waiting and gradually become comfortable working alongside a new group of dogs and people.

Once everyone has finished, we’ll stop at the café before heading back towards the cars together. The cafe/group walk is completely optional, but it’s a lovely opportunity for the dogs to practise being around each other while they’re off duty too.

A few things you might want to know…

Is it suitable for reactive dogs?
In most cases, yes. We’ve had plenty of reactive dogs on rolling trails who have absolutely loved the experience and benefited from it. As with our normal sessions, we can manage distances and adapt how we run the trails. However, this is Tatton Park, so there will be members of the public, wildlife and all the usual distractions that come with trailing in a busy public space. If you’re unsure whether it would be suitable for your dog, please speak to me before booking.

How much trailing will my dog do?
Just over 1km in total, split into two or three separate trails.

Do I have to do the group walk back to the cars?
No. Once your dog has finished trailing, you’re free to head off. The group walk is an added bonus for those who fancy giving their dogs a little more practice walking alongside their new trailing friends.

What happens if the weather is rubbish?
In most cases… we trail! If it rains, we trail. If there’s a red weather warning for storms, we don’t. Anything in between will be judged at the time. If snow or road conditions make travelling unsafe, we’ll postpone.

An important note about booking
This is a small group of just six teams, which is what allows us to manage the dogs properly and give everyone a good experience. That also means every place matters. If someone books and then doesn’t attend, we can’t simply replace them at short notice and it impacts the experience for the rest of the group.
For that reason, all sales are final. Once you’ve booked, your place is yours and we’re unable to offer refunds or transfers to other sessions if you can no longer attend.

So… fancy helping us find Rudolph? 🎅🦌

Six places. One festive trailing adventure. Let’s go!

Three teams. Three EXPERT Pet Trail Assessments. THREE PASSES!!!

Join me in giving a huge congratulations to Team Cara, Team Pebbles and Team Arnie, who all passed their Expert Pet Trail Assessments in some pretty challenging conditions!

These are three very different teams, but they have one very important thing in common. They’ve put in the work. They’ve practised, trailed in all sorts of weather and conditions and built a brilliant bond with their dogs along the way.

An Expert Pet Trail Assessment isn’t something you just turn up and do. It takes time, commitment, plenty of practice and a real understanding of your dog. You need to read the subtle changes in their body language, trust their decisions and work together when things get tricky.

It’s not easy, and it’s not supposed to be. That’s what makes passing such a fantastic achievement!

What I love most is seeing the relationship between dog and handler develop through trailing. Learning to trust each other, solving problems together and discovering just how capable your dog really is. These passes are a credit to all three teams and the work they’ve put in to get here.

Huge thank you to fellow The Canine School of Trailing instructors Rachel from Nose To Trail and Jess from Waggtails Dog Training for trailing with me.

Fancy seeing how far you and your dog could go?

Whether you’re a complete beginner or already working towards your next assessment, there’s a place for you on our trails. We welcome all breeds, ages, personalities and experience levels, with training adapted to the team in front of us.

Come and join us, follow your dog’s nose and see where your trailing journey takes you!

Sunshine, rain, wind… did we manage to squeeze all four seasons into one day? Absolutely!

A fabulous morning in Alsager with Teams Bertie, Zak, Troy and Tally. Great dogs, great people and some super trails. Then it was off to Macclesfield for an It Takes Two with Nose to Trail’s Team Pebbles and Team Louie.

Pebbles was practising those off-trail, multi-directional starts, while Louie got his introduction to trailing. And it was lovely to see his confidence soar as he started to get to grips with the game!

Two very different sessions, but the same reminder of why I love trailing so much. There’s always something new to learn, a challenge to work through or a little moment when you see a dog realise just how brilliant they can be.

Fancy joining us on the trails? Whether you’re completely new or looking to progress your training, we welcome all breeds, ages, personalities and experience levels.

Check out the upcoming sessions or get in touch to arrange an It Takes Two tailored to you and your dog. Let’s get those noses working!

Sunshine, puzzles and some seriously good nose work!

We made the most of a lovely sunny morning in Macclesfield yesterday with Teams Ben, Ellie, Mani and Loki.

There was plenty to get those brains working, from playing around with scent articles, sending two runners off, tricky trails and working through distractions. Every team had something different to think about and it was brilliant seeing them rise to the challenges.

Because trailing isn’t just about following a scent. It’s about problem solving, learning to read your dog and discovering just how much they can do when we give them the chance to work things out for themselves.

Fancy finding out what your dog’s nose can do? We welcome all breeds, ages, personalities and experience levels, with trails tailored to each team.

A cold, crisp evening in Congleton and three very different dogs keeping me on my toes!

Lovely to have Teams Cara, Freya and puppy Orla out with me.

We were getting in some motivational trails with Cara, progressing little Orla’s training and starting to see that lovely Border Collie focus coming through. And then there was Freya, who I tried to outwit with layered scent and contaminated scent articles. As ever, she was one paw ahead of me!

Different dogs, different challenges and plenty to think about, whatever the temperature.

The evenings might be getting darker and colder, but there’s still plenty of trailing to be done. In fact, it’s a brilliant time to get out, challenge those noses and enjoy seeing what your dog can do.

Fancy giving trailing a go? We welcome all breeds, ages, personalities and experience levels, with every session adapted to the dog in front of us. Find your next session and come follow your dog’s nose!

Scout is the Service Dog Awards, Rescue Dog Medal of Honour winner for 2026 for her trailing work! And as her handler, I honestly couldn’t be prouder.

Scout’s journey from stray to super sniffer makes this award particularly special. But when I think about Scout’s award, I don’t just think about the searches she’s done.

I think about what trailing has given her.

Confidence. A natural outlet. Something that allows her to use her incredible nose, make decisions, solve problems and work things out for herself.

And that’s why I’m so passionate about introducing all dogs to trailing.

Your dog doesn’t need to be a rescue. They don’t need to be a particular breed. They don’t need previous training or amazing focus. They just need a nose. And every dog has an amazing one!

But why trail with me?
I’ve been trailing with dogs for years and I’m a PACT Animal Training Instructor and ABTC registered. More importantly, I’ve worked with a huge variety of dogs, personalities and challenges.

So when you come trailing with me, you’re not just being shown how to follow a line. I’ll help you understand what your individual dog is telling you, when to step in, when to get out of the way and how to build their confidence without putting unnecessary pressure on them.

That matters because every dog is different. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach. My job is to meet your dog where they are and help you both become a team. And that’s the bit I love most about trailing.

Ready to give it a go?

We welcome dogs of all breeds, ages, personalities and experience levels.

Spaces are available now for the rest of 2026. Book your session with me and let’s see what your dog can do.
