Why is it different when it’s a small business?
People will happily pay a big company £££'s or more without questioning the price.
But when an individual says, “This is what I charge for my time and expertise,” suddenly it’s:
“That’s expensive!”
“Why does it cost that much?”
"That's not what we pay"
"I thought you'd do it for FREE"
But you’re not just paying for the hours I’m there.
You’re paying for years of experience, knowledge, insurance, fuel, equipment, training, DBS checks— and the ability to know what to do when something goes wrong. You’re paying for someone to take responsibility for your animals when you’re not there.
You’re paying for someone who can deal with the unexpected — a difficult lambing, a poorly animal, an escapee, an emergency — without panicking.
So why do we question the price of a small business, but rarely question the price a big company puts in front of us?
Whether you’re a cleaner, contractor, handyman, home help, pet sitter, lamber or anything in between. Small businesses deserve to make a living too.
