Meet Morrow (ginger & white) and Rue (tabby & white) who came in recently for a health check.

Because they're both on the Medivet Health Plan they get a health check every 6 months to make sure they're staying fit as a fiddle!

Both got the all clear and and hopefully won't have to see us again before their next scheduled appointment 🥰

This is Max!

Max came in as a transfer from another branch because he was having some bloody diarrhoea and needed hospitalisation. Max was really not very well at all and was suffering from quite severe haemorrhagic gastroenteritis (HGE). He had to spend around 8 days hospitalised with us having various tests and medications with regular monitoring. During that time Max even had to have a feeding tube placed and a plasma transfusion to try to support his body and replace as much of his losses as we could. He was really sick and we were all very worried about him.

And then Max turned a corner and suddenly started feeling much better! He ate by himself, his diarrhoea cleared up for the most part and wasn't bloody in the end. His blood tests had started showing signs of improvement and he'd really perked up so he got to trial being at home back with his Mum where he belonged!

Max came in the following day for a recheck and to make sure he was still doing okay. The good news is, he continued to improve and was happier in himself so he didn't have to be readmitted. Both him and vet Ania were thrilled with the news!

We all felt Max really deserved the bravery award after everything he'd been through and how much he tolerated and we're so glad he's feeling better now ❤️

Meet Honey!

Honey came in to see us for a free dental check with the nurse to make sure they were doing everything they could to protect her teeth. Honey let us have a very close look in her mouth and Giulia was happy to report that her teeth are looking really nice with just a mild case of plaque on some of her teeth.

Honey's owner already brushes her teeth at home, uses plaque off and dental chews to help keep them sparkling white so hopefully she won't be needed a dental any time soon!

She'd celebrated her 6th birthday the day before her visit and was already in the Spooky Season spirit with her ghoulish bandana ❤️

It's not all cats and dogs!

This weekend just gone we had this beautiful juvenile swan brought into us by the RSPCA. They had a fishing hook caught in their leg which had caused quite the laceration. Vet Tom was quick to remove the hook and, with the help of some local anaesthesia, stitch the wound back up.

This meant the swan could go back to their pond after some brief recuperation where they will, hopefully, keep clear of any fishermen in the future ❤️

Meet Bob!

Bob came in on the 1st to have his nails trimmed. Except Bob decided he didn't want a manicure and got very stressed about the entire situation. His nurse, Giulia, suggested Bob go home with some mild sedative drugs and come back another day to try again and so, with the agreement of Bob's parents, he went home with some Gabapentin and Trazodone and rescheduled for the 9th.

When Bob came back he was much calmer and happier to see us and this time he'd accepted that he did need his claws clipping. Bob let Emily and Giulia clip all his claws with just a small amount of complaining, resulting in a much nicer experience for everyone involved.

Trips to the vets can be stressful enough for you and your pets without adding extra stress in unnecessary situations - therefore we may sometimes suggest rescheduling and giving a sedative for non-urgent procedures/appointments. Pets like Bob are a perfect example of why this is something to consider for your more worried pets.

We're so glad we could help and hope it wasn't too stressful for him in the end ❤️

We've had this lovely little one brought into us after being found on the B5056 Long Cliff. They have a microchip but, unfortunately, it's not registered and their collar has no details on it.

Please share to help find this little ones owners 🙏🏻

Meet Millie!

Millie came in with us for the day to be spayed and won a bravery award for being super big and brave and for making so many staff friends while with us (but who wouldn't want to smush that face 😍).

She went home with her human big sister, Ella, who promised to look after her and make sure she doesn't do too much too quickly. We hope Millie has a speedy recovery ❤️

This month we saw our beloved Nick Pine step down from being the branch partner of Alfreton to now enjoy a life of semi-retirement.

Nick's been with us for an amazing 22 years and, in that time, he's built up an amazing clientele, helped so many of your pets get better and fixed so many of our problems (no matter what we throw at him). But don't worry! You'll still see him around. Nick may no longer be our branch partner but he's still going to be a vet, just with reduced days. So now you'll only have the chance to see his happy face on a Wednesday and a Thursday.

While we know he's popular and you all love to see him, please be patient with us while we try to fit you in on these reduced hours.

Thank you for everything you've done for us Nick! We hope you enjoy your extra time off now and that extra freedom ❤️
