YOU WON’T OUTWALK A DOG THAT NEEDS A JOB.

If your dog comes home and they’re still pacing, pestering you or looking for trouble, another longer walk probably isn’t the answer.

They need something that really gets their brain working.

This is scentwork. A job dogs absolutely love and something you can continue almost anywhere.

Our next Introduction to Scentwork course starts Sunday 13th September. Groups are limited to six dogs, and we only have a handful of beginner courses left this year.

If this sounds like your dog, don’t leave it too late.

Scentwork is far more than teaching your dog to find a target scent.

Done properly, it’s one of the most powerful ways to improve how your dog thinks, works and responds to you.

Better focus, stronger recall, improved impulse control, calmer lead walking and far more neutrality around other dogs.

These aren’t skills that stay inside the training room. They carry over into everyday life.

Scentwork builds confidence in nervous dogs, gives busy dogs a proper outlet and teaches easily distracted dogs how to slow down, think and make better choices.

If any of those are things you’re working on with your own dog, scentwork deserves a place in their training.

At Askan-K9, scentwork has never been an added extra. We’ve been teaching it for years because we know just how much it can benefit a dog.

Our next Introduction to Scentwork course starts Sunday 13th September, with places limited to just six dogs.

If you want more focus, confidence and control from your dog, this is where you start.

If you could teach your dog to find one thing that would genuinely make your life easier, what would you choose?

Your keys? Phone? TV remote? That one missing sock? 😂

You can only choose one, what are you training your dog to find? 👇

For me, I really should teach my dogs to find my phone. Just ask Ken, it’s something I look for several times throughout every single day. 🙈

Can you believe Margot and Lottie had never done Hoopers before this course? 🤩

They completed their four-week Introduction to Hoopers, and just look at them go!

We started with five dogs, but due to seasons, illness and one owner accidentally falling asleep 🙈, these two were the only ones able to make the final night.

They’ve both come on brilliantly. Well done, Margot and Lottie! 💚

Sorry for the late post, I've tried posting this several times, but for some reason Facebook just isn’t showing it. No idea what’s happening! 🙈

🐾 HAVE YOU RECENTLY BROUGHT HOME A PUPPY? 🐾

Our next five-week Perfect Puppy Programme starts THIS SUNDAY at 12pm—and there’s still time to join us!

Those first few months matter. The things your puppy learns now can shape their behaviour for years to come, so this programme is about far more than simply teaching a sit.

We’ll help you build the foundations for:

✅ Recall
✅ Loose-lead walking
✅ Focus and engagement
✅ Calmness and self-control
✅ Appropriate socialisation
✅ Handling and everyday life skills
✅ Preventing common puppy problems before they begin

Classes are kept small, puppies have their own space, and there are no chaotic puppy free-for-alls. You’ll learn how to train your puppy properly while building a relationship that will last a lifetime.

📅 Starts Sunday 23 August at 1pm
📍 Hilcote—conveniently located just off Junction 28 of the M1

🌡️ 37°C predicted today. So what are my dogs doing?

Absolutely nothing.

They’re enjoying the back garden while it’s still shaded, but the second that shade disappears, they’ll be back inside. The fans and air-con units are on, there’s plenty of water available, and they’ve got frozen treats, frozen fish, hydration drinks and chews.

There’ll be no walks, no training and no sniffing activities. They won’t come to any harm from doing nothing for one day. The heat, however, could kill them.

And I’ll be completely honest, if you choose to walk your dog in 37°C heat today, you’re an idiot and you don’t deserve to have a dog.

Argue with me in the comments if you like — I said what I said. 🤷‍♀️

(Obviously, this doesn’t include popping your dog for a quick toilet break, especially if they won’t toilet in the garden, or you don't have a garden etc.)
