This wee guy is Teddy and he is finally on the road to recovery after suddenly becoming seriously ill.

Teddy came in to us very weak and dehydrated having been vomiting and it was immediately obvious to vet Charlotte just how poorly he was. He was admitted for intravenous fluids and blood tests which showed he had gone into acute kidney failure and had hepatitis. He was jaundiced meaning that his skin and the whites of his eyes had gone yellow because his liver was struggling to cope with an infection. Teddy was diagnosed with likely Leptospirosis and over the next few days the team gave him intensive treatment including fluids through a drip, drugs to help his kidneys and liver and antibiotics.

Happily after being touch and go for a few days, he turned a corner and is now getting back to his usual tricks and his yellow colour is starting to fade even if his beard isn't quite yet!

Teddy's owners wanted to raise awareness of Leptospirosis which nearly took his life at a young age. The infection is spread in rat's urine so dogs can pick it up by sniffing about or eating grass anywhere where there are wild rats. Vaccinations to protect against it are needed annually even in older dogs so we recommend a booster every year. (Cats, interestingly, are naturally immune, probably because in the wild they would feed on rats). The infection usually affects the kidneys and liver as it did with Teddy and can be fatal.

It's great to see wee Teddy getting back to his old self again after being so poorly and we love his Halloween jumper!

Unfortunately we have had a deceased cat handed into the practice without a chip. The cat is an adult grey tabby neutered male. He was found on Stirling road at Strathleven round about.

If you think this could be your cat, please give the practice a call on 01389 751182.

💕 Overdue Brave Pet Award 💕

Beautiful 14 year old Pria came to us for emergency care after being the victim of a dog attack. Our nurses triaged her finding she had extensive wounds requiring surgery. As she was in shock the wounds were cleaned and dressed, with Pria given pain relief, antibiotics and home care overnight to stabilise before operation.
Our lovely Vet Alison operated on Pria the next morning, closing her wounds and put a drain in to her large chest wound to allow drainage of fluids. Pria continued to see us over the next few weeks for bandage changes and has made a brilliant full recovery 🥳🥰
Pria was an excellent patient and looked so adorable in her body suit 🥹😍 We're so pleased she's recovered so well and is an absolute trooper 🏆
