FREE DOG LAW WEBINARS...
I recently watched an excellent dog law webinar by well-known dog law solicitor, Trevor Cooper. I would recommend dog owners sign up to these, as well as having a look at the website for essential information for all owners. As part of my own private training and behavioural sessions I always discuss basic dog law and the main aspects of which we need to be aware of but for more in-depth information it is well worth learning more from this dog law firm.

Just back from a very hot week in Cornwall. Saw this spaniel enjoying a good sea swim with the help of a buoyancy aid.
Just take care with these as if windy conditions it can cause drifting.
Also on the west coast of Cornwall there are dangerous riptides so research any beach safety and follow advice.
All that said, have fun at the beach!

DON'T FORGET THE IMPORTANCE OF REGULAR BRUSHING YOUR DOGS TO HELP KEEP THEM COOL...

Find a cool place to do this and by brushing and/or combing through to reduce the thicker undercoat (double coated breeds) you will help keep your dog cooler. A couple of times a week is useful and you may be surprised at how much undercoat you will remove even within a few days of the last groom).

Longer flowing coats also benefit as the detangling allows the air to pass through.

If your dog visits a groomer for clipping then please remember to book well in advance and to do more frequently when necessary.

'DESIGNER' CROSS-BREED BUYING INFORMATION & HEALTH CHECK ADVICE...

If you are thinking of buying a cross-breed puppy please take a moment to look at the Doodle Trust helpful information and also a link to a previous blog article of mine about dog breed health tests. I have seen a lot of puppies over the years (pedigrees and cross-breeds) for which owners have paid premium prices for but for which there was no proof of health tests done for either the parents, and in some cases for the puppy (tests vary dependent on the particular breed and their recommended health tests).

By following good puppy purchasing practice, you will save yourself a lot of potential trouble (and money) and most importantly help to end the commercial and unscrupulous breeders from continuing.

Don't forget to carry your tick remover with you and to check your dog after walks. I found a tick inside the dog's ear last week after a walk.

THIS PHOTO IS A REMINDER THAT, AS CLEVER AS ANIMALS ARE, WE STILL NEED TO HELP THEM UNDERSTAND OUR LANGUAGE!

Whilst dogs are naturals at picking up on our body language, tone of voice and our emotions, we do still need to help them understand our language. As with the bird below, I have not yet taught a dog to read but I can help you improve communication and training! I can also help you have a better understanding of how your dogs are trying to communicate with you.
