A training win doesn’t have to mean:
“Perfect recall around 50 dogs" or "Loose lead walking past a fillet steak on the floor with your dog's name on it"!

Sometimes a huge win is:
🐾 choosing not to react
🐾 checking in with you
🐾 recovering quicker
🐾 walking past calmly
🐾 settling for 10 minutes

Progress matters.
Tiny steps still move you forward 🤎

FRIDAY FACTS

1️⃣ Tired dogs are not always calm dogs.
Overtired dogs can become MORE chaotic!

2️⃣ Enrichment is as important as exercise.
Sniffing, licking, chewing, searching, and problem solving matter.

3️⃣ Your relationship matters more than obedience.
Dogs learn best when they feel safe and understood.

Loose lead walking isn’t as simple as stopping pulling...

For many dogs, walks are:
✨ exciting
✨ stimulating
✨ frustrating
✨ emotional
✨ overwhelming

If your dog pulls, it doesn’t mean you’ve failed.

Sometimes we need:
• slower walks
• decompression
• more sniffing
• distance from triggers
• practice in low-excitement settings
• adjusted reinforcement timing

Walking nicely is an art & not something dogs magically know. Different dogs, different breeds and different contexts can all impact a dog's ability to loose lead walk.

Your dog isn’t giving you a hard time (on purpose).
They’re HAVING a hard time 🐾

Pulling, barking, lunging, ignoring cues, zooming around the house… these behaviours usually come from:
• overwhelm
• stress
• excitement
• confusion
• unmet needs

Training is never about “showing them who’s boss” or "teaching respect".
It’s about helping them feel safe enough to learn, and clearly, kindly communicating what is and isn't acceptable behaviour. When there is trust and understanding, that's where the magic happens.

Their behaviour is communication, and it requires communication from us. Compassionate, gentle and kind communication. Training with love 💗
