WHY DO DOGS CIRCLE BEFORE THEY LIE DOWN?

Ever watched your dog turn round… and round… before finally flopping down? 😂

It’s thought to be an instinct inherited from their wild ancestors, who would circle to flatten grass, check their surroundings and make a comfortable sleeping spot.

So even with a perfectly plumped-up dog bed waiting for them, some dogs still like to do the ancient bedtime ritual first! 🐾💤

🐕 DOES YOUR DOG PULL ON THE LEAD?

Try changing direction rather than pulling them back.

When your dog starts forging ahead, calmly turn and walk the other way. Reward them when they catch up and the lead becomes loose again. 🐾

The idea is simple: pulling doesn’t get them where they want to go — a loose lead does. ❤️

Practise for just a few minutes at a time and keep it fun!

🐕 DOES YOUR DOG NEED TO RUN THE WHOLE TIME?

Some dogs absolutely love to run — and if you’ve got a greyhound or another dog who lives for zoomies, having a safe space to really stretch their legs can be fantastic! 💨🐶

But for many dogs, a great off-lead session isn’t just about how far or how fast they run.

Sniffing, exploring and pottering about are important too. ❤️

Dogs experience so much of their world through their noses, so being able to take their time, follow an interesting scent and investigate their surroundings provides valuable mental enrichment alongside their physical exercise.

That’s why at Elementary we’ve tried to give dogs plenty to investigate as well as lots of space to run.

🌿 Play equipment
🌳 Trees and interesting corners to investigate
👃 Our scent station for a bit of extra nose work
💨 And, of course, plenty of open space for those dogs who just want to RUN!

So whether your dog spends their visit doing laps of the field, following their nose through the grass, investigating every tree… or a bit of everything…

let them enjoy the park their way. 🐾❤️
