🔥 HEATWAVE PET SAFETY TIPS 🔥
Save this post — these simple tips could help keep your pets safe this summer ☀️🐾

🐶 Walk dogs early morning or later evening
🌳 Always provide shade and fresh cool water
🚗 Never leave pets in cars — even for a minute
🧊 Use cooling mats, frozen treats, or damp towels
🐾 Check pavements before walks — if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for paws
🐱 Keep cats cool with quiet shaded areas and multiple water sources
🐰 Rabbits & guinea pigs must always have shade and airflow — hutches can overheat quickly
✂️ Regular grooming can help remove excess coat and prevent matting trapping heat

⚠️ Signs of overheating:
• Excessive panting
• Drooling
• Lethargy
• Vomiting
• Weakness or collapse

If you suspect heatstroke, move your pet somewhere cool and contact your vet immediately.

🐰 SUMMER SAFETY FOR RABBITS & GUINEA PIGS 🐹
Small pets can become dangerously overheated very quickly in warm weather.

Here are some easy ways to help keep them safe and comfortable:

🌿 Keep hutches/enclosures completely out of direct sunlight
🌿 Ensure constant shade throughout the day — remember the sun moves!
🌿 Freeze water bottles and wrap in a towel for pets to lean against
🌿 Offer water-rich veggies like cucumber in moderation
🌿 Increase airflow safely around hutches and indoor enclosures
🌿 Bring outdoor pets inside during extreme heat where possible

⚠️ Rabbits are especially vulnerable to heatstroke and can deteriorate rapidly.

Signs to watch for:
• Rapid breathing
• Lethargy
• Warm ears
• Weakness
• Refusing food

Cats often hide discomfort incredibly well, especially during hot weather.

Here’s how to help keep your cats comfortable over summer:

☀️ Keep curtains/blinds partly closed in sunny rooms
☀️ Make sure multiple water sources are available around the home
☀️ Add ice cubes to water bowls during hotter days
☀️ Provide cool resting areas such as tiled floors or cooling mats
☀️ Groom regularly to help remove excess coat and prevent matting trapping heat
☀️ Watch for reduced appetite, lethargy, panting, or drooling — these can all be warning signs

Did you know?
Cats can get heatstroke too, particularly older cats, overweight cats, flat faced breeds, and long haired cats.

And please remember — shaved coats are not always the answer. A healthy coat can actually help insulate and regulate temperature when properly maintained 🐾

Our salon is kept cool and comfortable, and we closely monitor all pets throughout their appointments during warmer weather. We have procedures in place to help keep dogs and cats safe, including fresh water, cool rest areas, careful monitoring, and allowing additional comfort breaks where needed.

During particularly warm days, appointments may take a little longer than usual as we work at your pet’s pace and prioritise their wellbeing over rushing grooms. We appreciate your patience and understanding during these periods 💛

We also kindly ask owners to be mindful when travelling to appointments:
• Please avoid walking pets during the hottest parts of the day where possible
• Ensure pets travel in a cool, well ventilated vehicle
• Never leave pets unattended in cars, even for a short time
• Bring water for longer journeys if needed

We currently have spaces available for student grooming appointments to help our students work towards their City & Guilds assessments ✂️

We are looking for well-maintained dogs suitable for tidy trims/profile trims, including breeds such as:
• Golden Retrievers
• Pomeranians
• Spitz types
• Australian Shepherds
• Collie types
• Spaniels

All student appointments are fully supervised by experienced professionals at all times, with your dog’s comfort, safety and welfare our top priority 💛

To be suitable, dogs must:
✔️ Be well behaved on the grooming table
✔️ Have a calm temperament suitable for a learning environment
✔️ Be comfortable being handled and groomed

These appointments are ideal for maintaining coat condition while helping support the next generation of groomers 🐶✨
