Bridfa Nerwyn Stud

Bridfa Nerwyn Stud A small stud of Welsh Mountain Ponies based on the purest Coed Coch bloodlines Fortunately for us, the executors of the Late Lt.

Our stud was formed in 1978 upon the dispersal of the world famous Coed Coch Stud. The four of us who worked at Coed Coch as stud grooms (my father Shem Jones; "Big" John Jones, of the Nantdywyll Stud, John "Bach" Jones and myself) were each given a mare to start our own studs, and I was very honoured and fortunate to be given Coed Coch Lili, who was a three year old filly at the time. Lili had be

en gravely ill as a yearling and we had become very attached to her whilst nursing her back to good health, and therefore when it was decided to disperse the Coed Coch ponies, we asked if it would be possible to purchase her privately, knowing there would be no way we could have afforded to buy her on the open market due to her exceptional breeding (her mother, Coed Coch Tarian was the highest priced female on the sale, bought for £4200). Col Williams-Wynn's estate decided they would give her to us as a gift. This was like winning the Lottery for us. We were also given the choice of using any one of the stallions we pleased to cover her, so we chose Coed Coch Barrog, knowing that he had produced good stock from Coed Coch Pryd mares in the past. This pairing proved very fortuitous as the following season Nerwyn Cadno was born, thus starting our own stud in earnest.

Nerwyn Loti loving life!

When you’ve an old favourite ❤️ Freezing out and about this morning 🥶

This is Loti’s original carriage when we started out and I’m sure she likes it the best ❤️🐴

It reminds me of little Merrylegs carriage from Black Beauty 🥰

Two-year-old Welsh Section B gelding, Alvesta Dante, went to his second show, and though he didn’t show off his movement as much in his halter classes this time around, he made up for it in his massive Liberty class, which he won. It was fun to hear the crowd whooping and cheering as he showed off—what a little star this guy is. Congratulation to his owner, Mykaila Dirsten!

He also won reserve overall Welsh Gelding Champion—to relative, Alvesta Sedona—1st & 2nd Sport Pony 2 & Under, and 1st & 3rd Model Hunter Pony! The Sport and Model Hunter classes are always especially well attended, so it was great to see our sweet boy appreciated.

Nerwyn Loti

The littles are enjoying the company of friend’s children over Winter while they have time off from competing. It’s nice for them to have a bit of variety and get time to chill 😎
