A whole year of being back to work after maternity leave. 🫶🏼

I really wasn’t sure how it was going to work — keeping a successful dog walking business going alongside becoming a first-time mum. 12 months on and, to be fair, I think we’re absolutely smashing it. 🥹❤️

It isn’t always easy, and there have definitely been days where juggling it all has felt like a lot. But I’m so incredibly thankful to have a job that has allowed me to build a business around my little family, and most importantly, meant I haven’t had to be separated from my little man before we were ready.

One year on, and I’m pretty proud of what we’ve built. 🐾🌊

Another lovely week- I’m actually so glad to see a bit of rain! 😅 Only one more week at work for me before 2 whole weeks...

🐾 So, what does Waves & Wander actually offer? 🌊

I get asked quite a lot whether I do pet sitting or dog boarding, so I thought I’d put together a little guide to exactly what I do offer. 💛

🐶 Dog walking — group walks, different locations, supervised socialising, and on or off-lead adventures where appropriate. (Solo walks can be arranged if needed but these slots are very limited & at a higher price)

🏡 Home visits — and not just for dogs! These are available for any type of pet and can include feeding, fuss & cuddles, toilet breaks, cleaning up and plenty of play and enrichment. Perfect for pets who need a little care and company while their humans are out.

❌ Pet sitting & dog boarding — these aren’t services I currently offer, simply because I want to make sure I can give my existing services the time, care and attention they deserve.

Everything I do is about happy pets, happy humans and giving you that little bit of extra peace of mind while you’re away. 🐾💙

Tuesday already... and somehow we’re into the third week of the summer holidays! ☀️🐾

The school holidays are usually my quietest time of year, as lots of my regulars are off on their travels or their humans are home from work. It always feels a bit strange after the usual routine!

I don’t mind it too much though—everywhere is so busy at this time of year that the fewer dogs I need to keep tabs on, the better! 😂

That said, as someone who’s self-employed, it can be a slightly nerve-wracking few weeks from an income point of view. But this year I’ve been lucky enough to welcome a few new dogs who walk all year round, so I’m still keeping pretty busy, which I’m so grateful for.

I always get to this point in the holidays and think... how on earth do I actually manage when we’re back to a full house?! 😂🐶

Ever wondered how I ended up walking dogs for a living? 🐾

I’ve worked in riding stables, kennels, care homes, shoe shops, salons, an ice cream shop, insurance, the family bakery... and probably a few other places I’ve forgotten along the way. 😂

Every job taught me something. Some I absolutely loved. Some I knew within days weren’t for me. Some introduced me to lifelong friends. One even led me to meeting my husband.

Looking back every unexpected opportunity has led me exactly where I am today.

If there’s one thing I hope you take from this, it’s that you don’t have to have your whole life figured out at 16 or 33 for that matter! You’re allowed to change your mind. You’re allowed to start over. And you’re never too old to build a life you genuinely love.
