A great day at Edinburgh Vet School today learning about equine behaviour and how we can make veterinary procedures less stressful for horses.

This horse is learning to touch a target using clicker training. Simple exercises like this can build confidence, improve communication and help horses feel more relaxed during handling and treatment.

Combined with appropriate low-stress handling techniques and, where needed, medication to reduce anxiety, these approaches can make veterinary visits safer and more positive for horses, owners and vets alike.

Always learning and looking for ways to improve horse welfare ❤️🐴✨

One of little Daisy’s lower cheek teeth had become displaced, causing it to dig into her cheek and trap food around the area.

Despite this, she was still eating well and behaving completely normally - a reminder of just how stoic horses can be at hiding pain.

The troublesome tooth has now been extracted, and with the socket and cheek ulceration expected to heal quickly, Daisy should soon be feeling far more comfortable 🙌

With the upper jaw longer than the lower, the top incisors become overgrown - and you can even see the effect on the front upper cheek teeth too.
